Even more than for EDC, I find myself flicking open knives while brainstorming, creating, programming, sitting in traffic, and for general stress relief. I'm looking to pick up either a Spyderco PM2 or a Zero Tolerance 0562CF as a next knife. For those who have owned both, which one is more satisfying to repeatedly open and close? I don't have a preference when it comes to flipper vs non.

Definitely the Spyderco. The lock is much easier to disengage, so you will get many more flicks per hour. And..... Welcome to BF

The spyderco, I rather flick open and close manual knives. Not a fan of assisted

Yeah, the PM2 is a ball. IT has the compression lock, which is completely "strange" but it works so well. I've had a lot of these and I love 'em.
Also, I'll take the 3.75 ounces compared to 5.5 ounces every day. The PM2 is light in your pocket.
The ZT's are very nice folders and I've owned a bunch of these also, but generally are in excess of five ounces, which is my top weight for casual carry.

Between the PM2 and 0562, I like the the 0562 more for just just flipping around. The flipper with KVT has incredibly smooth action, and the heftier handle just feels better in hand.

Just to throw out another idea... I like the Delica even more for use as worry beads. Once you get the one-handed closing motion down (it is a little more involved than a frame or compression lock), it's actually rather therapeutic. And the Delica is a great knife too, in case you need to cut stuff. ;)

I'd put the ZT 0770CF up against the PM2 for a better like for like comparison...now weight is off the table, both sub 4 oz.

That's a toss up, you really can't go wrong with either. There are very different knives though. I've owned a few of both and they are both fun to carry and flick. The PM2 is iconic but Ti and bearings make for great flipping. I'd say start with the PM2 and keep your eye out for a deal on the ZT.

Agree. These are two very awesome, yet very dissimilar knives. I (just counted) have 8 PM2s and 5 different 0562s. Personal opinion, the 0562cf is one of my favorite all time knives. It's just so... 'Smooth.

There is just something about a PM2. Probably my most fun knife to carry. The only PM2 I have ever owned, maybe I got lucky, or maybe they are all like this.. but it's a perfect example in every way..lock up, centering and buttery smooth fast action.

handled both, own a zt0562cf and a zt0562 if that tells you anything.

The ZT is not assisted.

I own both and love both. The PM2 is more fun for me but the ZT is still great. For fun factor I don't think you can go wrong with either.

I just came it to check out the thread . And guess what I was doing yup flipping and flicking the knives you asked about .
Both are great knife but for fun purpose the PM2 wins by a hair . More ways to open the knife . The 0562 is a lot smoother and opens fast in my opinion it's a better knife that said the PM2 it's a great knife that every knife nut should should try .

Adding to what others have been saying both knives are fantastic but vastly different. In terms of playing with it I love the PM2 much more and am much more open to edcing than I am my 0562CF. Both are excellent EDC blades. However, I find myself carrying my PM2 more often than not, my ZT0562CF gets carried quite a bit but I flip it more than I carry it.

To me this should not even be a question because the answer is simple: ZT0562cf all day and everyday.

Now if you ask which is a better slicer or more EDC friendly, I might have a different answer.

ZT 0562 is definitely more fun. When flippers work, they're a joy. The PM2 is a great knife but the occasional Spyder-Byte from the compression lock will bring you down to earth fast. In hand and for cutting tasks it might be a different answer but for fun, a good frame lock flipper is hard to beat and the 0562 is one of the best ZT makes.

Wow, thanks for all the feedback so far, I didn't expect the responses to be so evenly split down the middle!

Welcome to blade forums!

The correct answer is get both. Keep them both or sell/trade the one you don't like as much.

They are both great to play with.
I think the PM2 i more funny to play with than the 0562 just because you have more options to flip it open.
With the 0562 you can only push the flipper and it works, fine, smooth and fast every time....

The PM2, you can use your thumb, your fingers, press the compression lock, open it slowly or quickly.

From a quality point of view the ZT0562CF is higher, but the PM2 is no-nonsense purely functionnal and funnier to play with.
