Hello all, i'm a newbie in the wonderful world of knives.
I recently fell in love with the Spyderco Police Model that i saw in a Cuttlery in Paris.
I Plan to buy it for Christmas; but before i would like to have your opinion on that knife...It is quite expensive for me and i would not like to loose my money.
Thanks

I prefer a knife with either Kraton or G-10 handles. My first Spyderco had SS handles and it was kind of a disappointment for me because I find SS much less comfortable to grip. If I was you, I'd save a lot of money and buy a Calypso Jr. lightweight. I just got mine a few weeks ago and it is my new favorite. It has a great steel (VG-10), a very comfortable handle, and a great price of about $40.
Of course, if you really fell in love with the Police then go ahead and buy it, you won't be let down by any Spyderco.

Welcome to the world of knifenuts :)
IMHO,the police is a very good knife.
Actually it's quite expensive(especially if you are referring to Paris in France),but it worths the money.Altough it may seem heavy,it's thinness and streamlined profile make it disappear in the pocket. It may be true that for havy cutting or white knuckles grips other material are more comfortable, but i use either a police or a SS endura day in and day out with no trouble.By the way...often you hear that SS is cold to the touch:that is true if you leave your knife on a bench or something, but if you keep it in your pocket,it will be at 37°c,that means that you usually feel it hot,not cold.
If you are worried about the price buy a SS endura:i bet you will come back for the police soon!

I have two SS-handled Police models, one plain and one fully-serrated. I love both of them and they are among my all-time favorite knives. Some say it is too heavy, but I disagree. I hardly notice its weight, and it's so thin it's hardly noticeable when you carry it. Another advantage of the SS handle is it can clip very strongly to your pocket without ripping up the material as Zytel or other handle types might.

I've seen and handled a Police before. This older model doesn't get much attention these days, in light of all the new stuff Spyderco has been doing. I think it is an outstanding knife with an excellent slicing profile. I would take one over the liner-locking Military anyday. Bigger blade, too.

You cannot go wrong with a Police model. Its thin and mean with a good lockup.I just got mine back from my Dad.Mine was a limited run with titanium handles and Ats-34 blade(fully serrated). The design is a classic.I don't see how you could go wrong getting it.

The SS Police Model was my first Spyderco many years ago. I think you'll simply adore it once you have it! As stated above, the combination of the smooth SS handle and clip makes for an extremely smooth insert and draw from one's pocket. Go for it!

Sounds like you really like the Police model, so just on that I would say Go For It!! I have never owned one, but I have a friend who has had one for going on about 9 years. It is a great knife, lock up is good and its thin profile is great.

Mandragore,

The Police model with s/s handles is one of my all time favorite designs. It is slim, strong, smooth, beautiful, and very well made. It is a true Spyderco classic and is worth every penny you have to pay for it. I also own both the plain edge and serrated models in stainless.

Thanks for all your advice. In France (I'm a frenchy) it costs about 130 dollars in all the knifeshops i've visited but i don't know excatly the change rate today...
I will certainly feel the difference with that Spydie. The biggest knive i have to that day is a Bôker Gemini and its quality is not really good.

The Police is a fantastic knife. I, too, would buy it in a second over something like the Military. The only question point about the police is the heaviness of the stainless handles. If you have no problem with that, then you will love the Police. It's got a good solid lock, and a fantastic working blade shape.

I have a SS Police that I have owned for years. I like this knife very much. It has a blade that came very sharp and stayed that way a long time. It is also pretty easy to sharpen. I have kept this knives while going through a ton of other folders.

This knife is a good knife but, I would buy the version with the rubber handle. I purchased the steel handle and when your hand gets wet or sweats, you may have a problem keeping a hold of the knife.

I have the SS version, fully serrated and I really like it. As stated above, it handles very smoothly and cuts like crazy.

I had other little dinky knives for a collection before my Police Model, but it truely was my first good knife. The piece was found rusted and all gritty, and I was able to turn it around to an EDC piece in no time. What's more, nearly 10 yrs later, it was lost, then found, again in BAD shape. $17.00 later, after a "tune-up" with Spyderco, the knife is once again first rate! I carried this knife RELIGIOUSLY for 5 years, until I was given a Lightweight Delica for
X-Mas. It is TOTALLY serrated, and it handled EVERYTHING I threw at it. Yes, it is expensive, and yes, it is HUGE, but it is AWESOME! I have nearly EVERY Spydie on the market, and along with my Customized Viele, it has to be one of my fav's.

Now, the MILITARY is awesome too, but I got cut once with it BAD, so I am afraid of the damn thing.

I rek'mnd something smaller than the Police Model...like either the Delica or Native. The Police, however...is the ultimate!

It is a nice knife but I wish they would not have named it "police". What is worse they stamp "Police" on the blade. What is the sense of this? Does it sell that more knives?

If you ever did need to use it for defense I would think there would be some questions as to why you are carrying that model folder.

Ironic, given the nature of the "Civilian". If any thing it should have gone the other way, but both names suck.

Th Police is a very good knife, but I don't beleive it's 2x the knife that the Endura is. The SS Police is 2x the price of the SS Endura, and that's a bit much. The Police also has a very fine tip, which has certain advantages, but also might snap off the first time you drop it.

Ditto Roger, and I will never buy one because of that. What were they thinking? Well your honor this man was carrying a Police knife when we searched him. Obviously he's not a cop and should not have had it and must have been carrying as a weapon. Its not the end of the world, but give me a break. I also dont like the fact my Military says Military on it. If nothing else some cop might be asking "Well sir why are you carrying this military knife or police knife? Your not a cop or a grunt are you now. Being ignorant he might want to know if I stole it from them? Like government property or something. But I am sure the names sell knives. Delica, Endura, Civilian, Chinook, Calypso now those are nice names. :-)

One of the first quality knives I bought. It's a user. I stick it my tool belt when doing general work around the house. It cuts great and keeps it's edge. I'm not crazy about the smooth SS handle.

This knife gets more use than any other that I own.

Funny, but one of the things that attracted me most to these two wonderful knives were the names "Police" and "Military". I think they're great.

The Police model is a true Spyderco classic. The G-10 handled version is lighter and grippier if that's what you need, but the s/s model is the one for me as it is noticeably slimmer, and smoother to draw and replace into the waistband. As my good friend would say about the s/s Spydies: "they've got the glide..." I adore them, and that's why I now own both the plain edge and serrated versions of stainless model.

Cheers, Jeff/1911.
