Spyderco Police or Military??

I think the VG-10 will hold an edge longer than the S30V.
The S30V has about the same hardness as AUS-8, which is quite abit less than the VG-10.

As far as trips to the toilet go, it was much like any other. Little did I know, as I at on the bowl with my latest copy of Knives Australia, the drama that was about to unfold.

When I finished my business and want to continue my day about a kilo lighter (been eatin lots of bran lately) I found that I couldn't unlock the door. For some reason the handle chose that moment to no longer engage the lock. My house is very solidly built from large rammed earth bricks and the window vent is too small to crawl through so the only way I was going to get out was through the door. The door also opens in so there was no hinges to unscrew.

While I would have loved to have my leatherman I had not forseen any survival/tactical situations before going to the toilet so I only had my Millie, clipped to the back of my shorts where it lives.

Using it as a chisel I chipped away at the plywood around where the doorhandle was and was able to make enough space to see into the lock. I then used the blade as a prybar to pull back what looked to be some sort of lever that might disengage the lock (a locksmith I aint)As much as I was loathe to use the tip of the knife like this the choice was that or spending the next few weeks of my life locked in the dunny (as it was my brother visited the next morning so it would only have been 24 hours, but I wasn't to know). I pulled back on the blade, using quite a bit of force before I heard a loud metallic 'snap'. Looking down I expected to see the tip broken off the Millie. I instead saw that it was still whole. As pointy as ever. The part that I thought was a lever was not a moving part at all.

I eventually chiselled more of a hole in the plywood and then just ripped the lock assembly out of the wood - incredible hulk style. I stepped out of the door to breathe the sweet air of freedom - then I gagged, closed the dunny door, went outside and then breathed the sweet air of freedom.

So not only did the millie save the day it showed itself to be way stronger at the tip than I would have thought.

So if you are looking for an emergency toilet extraction knife - go for the MIllie.

In a small toilet on the edge of the desert, no one can hear you scream......

The Military is good for most situations, but if you are a Spyderco fan, you may want to own both eventually. :)
