Spyderco PPT Makeover (pics)

That look much better, still not my thing, I like the scales, but much better. Actually if it wasn't for the scales I don't know if I would have bother picking one up.

Very nice and creative elaboration:cool:, I have a PPT and I like it a lot with its beatiful scales, but it is really nice also naked.

I have looked at this several times and I actually like where it's going.
I had a PPT but DIDN'T like the scales. Too thick and the heft/nalance was thrown off by them, in MY opinion.
So I sold the PPT.
Love the blade shape and steel, but didn't like the way it felt when carrying it.
But, different folks.
Now, I am looking at this differently.
I have some Jade Ghost G-10 in two sizes. .080 and .122. Almost perfect to make a set of scales for this knife as the liners are different thicknesses already.
I have no problem cutting down or replacing the screws. And, I would use standoffs in stead of the back spacer.
Oh, and to allow the frame lock to "hper extend" a bit, cut a bit out at the back of the lock in the scale. It's what Spyderco does with the military, and it works well.
I think I will do this if I can find a used PPT with a good blade and stonewash everything but the clip. Then put on the Jade G-10 scales. Simple job to rescale this one.
Thank you for the idea.
When I get it done, I will post a link back here to the project. Maybe in two weeks. I am doing a Desert Sand Military right now to match my new Desert Tan Kel-Tec PF9. I am having to cut the nests for the liners by hand as I don't have any routing tools as yet. Haven't needed them.
Then I will do this project.

Why? That's a waste of a perfectly good folder. Slap the G10 scales back on and trade with me for a Spyderco Millie :)

I am working on my own version of this.
I was wondering about the stop pin.
It looks like it is "floating" in your pics as there are no scales to prevent it from walking out.
I have one tidbit for you and others looking at this.
the Endura (and Matriarch 2).pivot has the same diameter as the stop pin, and it's hardened. It has the "D" shape, and has a screw on both ends to hold it all together IF you have removed the scales. if not, then you have to drill the scales to fit the pin.
Just remember that the PPT has a .155-.158 width inside the liners from the pivot to the back screw.
I am almost finished with my PPT. Need the stand offs and TI clip (have to drill and tap clip holes).
I will post the mod HERE when I get it done.
I think a lot of people will be interested in this one. Like it or not, it was/is a lot of work, and I like it.
I call it the Outlander PPT.
This thread got me thinking about getting the scales off, so thank you for the inspiration.
I am not saying what mods I have done, yet, but without the clip, I am down to 3.4 OZ!
The steel liners are heavy. I can see with Ti liners, maybe .5 OZ more can be removed. And the knife would be a bit more durable, if you think SS steel isn't durable enough.

Version 2 looks much better. It looked super cheesy with those cheap stacked washers.
