Spyderco price jump?

Quite the jump in Canada, Shaman went from $309 to $369 in the past week or so, glad I got mine 2 weeks ago, $60 jump for a single knife is pretty silly, Benchmade did it last Novemeber or around there where stuff I bought all went up $40-$50 a few weeks later, pretty big increases, especially seeing as they do them every year.

Havent noticed Civivi and others increase at all in that same time frame, might have to start buying more quality chinese knives now, was buying about 2 benchmade or spyderco per month but its just not worth it anymore to buy new unless someone has a great deal on it for black friday or whatever, will likely just browse the forums for people trying to unload theirs

YeH, the answer is to buy more Chinese knives. LOL.

I noticed a big one, and I don’t usually care, but the 0393GL is friggin stupid money, like $340, and the 0308blkts is pushing $400 I think. Glad I already have both, thanks to DLT I got my 0393GL for like “normal” $260-$280 price thanks to my points….

And got my 0308 on the exchange, basically brand new for a $150 discount

They do a yearly price increase on Jan 1.
Hey Jordan!
I’ve noticed this with the bigger USA companies the past couple years (since Covid), but was this always the case even like 5-10 years ago? Just feels wrong, unless it happens to be a year when I get a raise at work (not very often lol)

Hopefully folks will feel the same about the products or services offered by your company, causing them to spend their money elsewhere. Hopefully you won't be affected if they have to start letting folks go. 🤷

People will.still buy knives, Chinese knives are not the crap they used to be and they are closing the gap, they will always be cheaper due to manufacturing costs but how do you justify a 20% price increase? Did inflation go up 20%? People will pay more to buy American but that will only go so far, if anything it's these companies that are supporting the Chinese knife market by driving people towards it. Price increases are normal and expected but there is a point when they go so high the product is noonger worth it, in a few years at this rate you buy a shaman for the price of a CRK but you still get the s30v and g10, sounds like a great deal

I can't speak to 10 years ago, I've only been here 6 years, but several companies were doing yearly increases before covid.

Less people have extra money to spend on luxury items. To stay alive, businesses have to make up for it. One way is to increase margins to account for losses in volume. It’s math.

Let's not get into politics or some of youse guys may have reason to post in the "complaint" thread. I'm not naming any names D DMG ...

We each have our own values and policies when it comes to making purchases...let's leave it at that please.

Some Canadian knife stores have their prices updated with the conversion rate from USD like weekly, which really put us into bad situation with lack of stable price. Then some other stores put on about 15% mark up to keep the price stable for a while, then increase yearly. It is really not fun.

and old an old OS?

Old? That's an odd complaint. Linux did launch a few years before modern Windows (NT), but not by that much.

Linux runs a majority of the internet, and every company I've worked for. It is very much alive and well.

To try to steer to at least a veneer of on-topic-ness, I will say the price hikes over the last year have impacted my acquisitions. I am spending slightly less overall, but mainly not buying cheaper knives. I think what happened is mentally, the delta looks bigger on impulse buys, so I've stopped in preference of saving up for significantly nicer things, I guess where the price hike is less noticeable. Human psychology around money can be odd.
