Hello!

The KnifeCenter news page said these knives are expected to come out this fall "actually soon"...However, I emailed Spyderco yesterday, and they told me that the knife is still in prototype stages and no release date has been set yet. Is it reasonable to expect these knives to come out before X'mas, considering that it usually takes several months (or even a year) for Spyderco to introduce new models to the market? I'm really excited about this new knife, but I can't wait to buy a new one...Any opinions or insights?

Hi Tim,

I was on the phone with someone from Spyderco yesterday and they said they would not comment about the knife's release but said that it is possible that this might come to fruition. I also know that Spydies likes to make prototypes and bring them to shows just to see what kind of reaction they get from the public. If reaction is favorable, then they will proceed in making the knife a part of the regular Spyderco line. There are also some protoypes that do not even see full production too. So at this stage, it is kind of hard to tell.

Right now, Spyderco is concentrating on getting the Lums, the Centofantes, the Herbsts, and the Terzuolas out to the market before this Spydie/REKAT knife. I believe they are going to do it, but it is just a matter of when.

I just got off the phone with Bob Taylor of REKAT. He is a very personable fellow and, while he was unable to help me with my issue, he provided me with valid and well-explained reasoning as to why.

Anyway...

He said the new collaboration is going to be called the Martial and that they just finished the prototype (sounds like REKAT made them, not Spyderco).

I am really looking forward to checking out this new knife. The Rolling Lock is my favourite locking mechanism by far.

Thanks for the input, Clay. So - knife is made by REKAT, but marketed by Spyderco. Sounds like a winner anyway you look at it!
