Spyderco repairs?

A few years ago I was out for an evening stroll...laying out some spike strips on the Interstate. The felon in the vehicle was either trying evasive action or wanted to run over another officer and made the attempt.

By the time it was over, most of my personal equipment was damaged, including the pair of plastic clip Spyderco knives clipped to my vest pouch. They both lost their clips and were put into my gun safe.

Is it possible to repair these knives?

I'd be reluctant to get rid of them as they were constant companions for many years prior to that event.

In any case, thanks for a most enjoyable forum. I learn a lot here. My current constant companions are a pair of Waved Enduras.

I'm not sure if they're repairable but if you don't mind i have always wondered about spike strips... i know at least in my state (pennsylvania), local police cant use radar but state police can... anything of that sort with spike strips? What would happen if a local police dep't decided to use radar anyway? Would they get in trouble?

I've had a couple of evening strolls lately myself :). Good story and stay safe brother. Tomjoyce, I don't know about getting in trouble, but the ticket would never hold up in court. I didn't know that about PA.

I'm fairly sure that Spyderco can repair these knives. The plastic clip broke off of my friend's Delica and he sent it back to Spyderco. For his knife, they sanded off the remainder of the plastic integral clip and installed a new metal clip.

Thanks Pro. As to if you can or can't, depends on the jurisdiction. In my area we aren't hung up on who can do this and who can do that. All badge toters with powers of arrest are on the same playing field, different only by their assignment and equipment.

My last enduring plastic pocket clip has also given up, on an Endura(C10PBK) that's been a long time companion.

My story is less dramatic, involving only collision of a large mass with an undersized portal.

Like them Spydercos, though. EDC are Delicas and Enduras.

Mine broke & was replaced with a metal clip by Spyderco ,that was in 1992 & it is still holding up!
good luck ,regards,Rick.

I've broke every plastic clip on everything I have ever had. Cell phone holsters are one of my favorite targets. I like to get in and out of cars and break my cell phone holsters. It is sort of a past time for me.

On the bright side, there are ways to fix it yourself. You can even install a wire clip like on the new Spydercos if you are a little handy. Everything you need is at your local hardware store.

If you want to retire them, the newer Spydercos have better steel and in general are better knives. I am not talking about the Endura 4 (that is fine knife as well), I mean the newer Endura 3s. They have VG-10 and metal clips. Might as well upgrade while you are thinking about it. I bet if you look around in the want ads here, you can pick up a nice used Endura 3 for very good price. After shipping and paying for the repairs to the old ones, you might come out about even. I have got Endura 3s for about $25 on several occasions.

Just some thoughts. That way, you get to keep the old ones as back ups and have new ones as well.
