I just bought a S mainly because Qs are hard to find and getting expensive. I could have found a Q for the price of the S but I am happy I got the S. You don't hear much about it now but it is a great little knife. This is one of the ones that is in danger of slipping off the radar.

I am convinced now that we are in a second golden age for Spyderco. There are more and more models that are so right. There are several models that even though I own them, I want more and I am still excited about. The Caly III, the "S", the Centofante 4, the CF Mili and several others are just great knives. The quality is just as high or higher than in the old days on most of these knives. For example, the S has better fit and finish than any Q I have owned. The Q was high quality but the S is flawless. I can't believe it was made in Taiwan. In fact, that and the fact that it is only 440c are the only things I can find wrong with it.

If the S was made in Seki-City and was VG-10, it would have been a better knife but it probably would have cost $20 more as well. As it is, it is a light and handy little knife. I think it ranks as one of the best sub 3" Spydercos I have seen. The Caly III is just over 3" by my measurements so I would call that one a true 3".

The S is a great little user. The Q ... on the other hand was originally manufactured to sell for around $30. It's collectible, but likely wouldn't stand up to continued hard use. I guess I'm one of the few Spydie guys that never jumped on the Q collection bandwagon .. Thank goodness .. ;) , my wallet would be substantially lighter ...
