VG-10 can actually handle most of your cutting needs and you won't feel inadequate if it's the only knife you own. but for people who like to compare steels (for whatever reason) and i'm one of them, they'll go with s30v.

I find myself sharpening my S30V blades less frequently than the VG-10 blades.

Its kind of unfair seeing as VG-10 is only in Japan and they'll only use other Japanese steels like Super Blue/ZDP-189/etc. Have yet to try Spyderco's VG-10 but their s30v holds a working edge just fine.

Sure. I cut a lot of cardboard, and S30V microchips. It's just not my favorite, but it's fine for most things. It's not that I won't own it, but there are better steels for me available.

I have had the same experience. I just got a Kershaw Lahar in VG-10 and I heard they ran it at 60-61 which I thought was high for VG-10 so we'll see how it performs

Exactly my experience as well. It's not the easiest steel to fix either. VG-10 has never chipped/rolled on me.

VG-10 gets sharper, S30V is tougher - depends on what you are doing with it, and personal preference. For me, I'll always take sharper.

I used to be one of the guys that preferred the highest edge holding I could find but as I started to sharpen myself, I prefer something that holds well and touches up easier.

I am currently testing this as I recently acquired a BM Volli, which is the 1st s30v I've owned. So far I can say, this blade is crazy-sharp! If vg-10 can get sharper I've never witnessed it, not that it hasn't been every bit as sharp. And, the edge holding so far is phenomenal! Early on I would give a slight edge to s30v, but we'll see....

To me, S30V acts like a stone that ca be knapped, pretty brittle. VG-10 seems to be more elastic at the edge, I've never chipped it, but it will roll.

I think someone just figured out how to do a poll in the past month :D:p

VG-10. It's an ideal balance of edge holding and easy sharpening, and doesn't chip the way I've had S30V do. Plus it looks pretty with that watery pattern to it.

I've been on a BF Poll vacation for several months. I was doing a bunch of them back when the KAI forum was around. :)

If one likes the VG-10 over the S30V, what would you do if you wanted the PM2? Does the PM2 come in VG-10 and S30V?

As far as I know, all regular production Para-Military folders have only been in S30V.

There were some sprint runs in: CPM-D2, CPM-S90V, CTS-20CP, M390, CPM-S35VN, CTS-XHP and CTS-204P.
