Im really interested in these knives like the Pacific Salt or Salt 1. In the Pacific salts are there any blade play? Hows the steel hold up in the long run? Im familiar with sharpening so i dont mind on edge retention. I want your opinion. thanks

I use a PE to cut thorns and small limbs a lot and the edge holds a lot longer than I thought it would, to be an speciality rust proof steel. I even used to tip end the other day, to start a broken bolt out of my motorcycle's side case and the edge only suffered some very minor chipping, that sharpened right out.
There's no side to side blade play and only a tiny bit of "rock-back" (straight back if you pull on the blade) this hasn't gotten any worse even though I hack with the knife daily. It's really very tiny and doesn't affect performance at all.
I'm pretty pleased with my Pacific Salt and it's very light at 3 oz., important in a clipped in pocket hiking blade.
For a care-free knife the Salts are hard to beat and impossible to beat for the price.

The Salts are excellent. I have a PE Salt 1 and a SE Tasman Salt. On both of my Salts, there is a *tiny*bit of play in the locked position in mine, like Jill mentioned, but it doesn't affect performance. Pretty much all the Salt lockbacks I've handled had a tiny amount of that vertical play, when pulling back on the blade or heavy cutting. But IMO they are an unbeatable value. Also, my Salt 1 and Tasman feel feather-light. That might make them seem less tough than they actually are. This H1 is fantastic.

I have a pacific, and the lockup is real nice and tight with no blade play.It seams the edge retention just gets better the more i use it and it also lasts longer between sharpen sessions.

I have a Salt 1 for two years that I use pretty hard as a landscaper. No blade play. No body "pins" knives better than Spyderco.
