I would like to preface this story by saying that I am a dog/animal lover. A buddy of mine was walking his dog, a boxer named Scooby, yesterday when two dogs (a german shepherd and a pit-bull) that belonged to is neighbor ran up and attacked Scooby. The two dogs were not on leashes, as they often weren't from what I hear. My friend was carrying a Resilience (I got him into knives and spyderco last year, stressing how a knife is always a god thing to have, in general not for dispatching people or animals, and he now has about 10 spydies) and thrust it into the Shepherd's torso to no avail and then in the neck, at which point the dog cried out and stumbled away, dying shortly thereafter. The pit also pulled off. It's sad that a dog had to die, but I suppose it was the aggressive dog or my buddy's. The owners received tickets for not having tags on the dogs and not having up-to -date shots. Scooby will be alright. The vet said he was lucky as dogs don't usually survive attacks like that.

He's a good boy.

I hope your friend's dog makes a full recovery and thank you for sharing this unique story with us.

i was attacked in Turks and Caicos by ferral dogs (eight of them)while bonefishing a very shallow flat on Flamingo Lake with just a Spyderco Mariner to fight them off with. I now carry a H1 Aqua salt on my side in the marl. SCARIEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE THOUGHT I WAS GONNA DIE. First from the dogs and then thought I was having a heart attack. Well i survived to tell the story. Ive had steel in my pocket ever since and not a minute and i mean a minute without. I wrote about this on the Spyderco manufactures section of BF in detail. Glad your friends dog is ok. That is the second time ive been attacked by dogs. Needless to say there wont b a third time without a K9 dying.

I'm kinda surprised they didn't charge him with some sort of crime for defending his dog with deadly force--maybe possessing such deadly force in the first place.
Must have been outside the city, no?

Where were you guys and how were the officers towards you?

While I hate seeing a dog dye I am glad scoobs made it out! That last picture just his personality, looks like a great dog. It is all the owners fault too, any dog can lash out no matter the breed or past temperament.

Nah. Chicago, southside of, in the city proper. There are Cops in Chicago who won't hassle you, provided you don't portray yourself as a lowlife or act as such, when it comes to a knife at least. A lot of them understand. In that particular neighborhood, there are thugs all over the place who walk around with their "mean" dogs with the intention of intimidation. I also don't think it looks favorable on the owners when they can't be bothered to register the dogs with the city (a requirement for dogs 4 months and older) and have them wear the required city tag and rabies vaccine tag.

Awwe I'm glad Scooby made it out okay. He's a really cute dog.
Sad that another animal had to lose its life.
People seriously need to get it together when it comes to owning an animal.
You have to take care of them and teach them. You have to be smart about it and caring.
Some people just don't need to own animals. It's not the animal's fault, it's the owner.

If you do your simple tasks and love them, take care of them, and teach them, and do what you're supposed to do, you'll end up with a sweet dog who will be loyal until the end.

Really glad he's okay!!! Just wish another animal didn't have to die due to human neglect and mistreatment. It's common sense you don't let two big dogs like that out without a leash or a fenced in yard.

Sounds like Bridgeport. Glad your pup is well, bittersweet results.

Glad Scoob's is ok:thumbup: Sucks that the other dog had to die and I blame the owners. I would have done the same to protect my dog except they wouldn't want to pick a fight with my 110lb American Bulldog.

Glad that Scooby will be OK, and also glad the aggressive dog won't be able to attach again.

I love animals, but if a large aggressive dog attacked me or my loved ones, I won't hesitate to send him/her to doggy heaven.

35th place and Halsted here its a small world ! Ramova Grill R.I.P.

I went there one last time a day before they closed up. Sadness indeed. I was driving down archer the other day and it's still weird to see things where other things existed for so long, like the Brighton Theater or Kroozin' Music.

Wow we must be around the same age i used to go there for breakfast a lot cheap eats great food except the chili tasted like kerosene to me . Last movie i saw at the Brighton was Smoky and the Bandit dont get me started on Kroozin Music i am old enough that i used to go to the Ramova show Dawn of the Dead last one i saw there . Rich
