I may be way out of line here (or this may be an ancient thread), but I would love some purty scales on some Spydies - I'm not talking Yellowhorse or Blanchard, just some nice wood or mother of pearl scales. Is that too much to hope for???

Thanks for the links Brian. While these knives are attractive, the scales I'm lusting after ooze quality thru simplicity (dare I say eg Elishwitz?). I guess there's the aftermarket custom route, but I'd rather give my $ to Sal!!!

double post - sorry

Ferret - We've not done well in the "purty" arena. There are a fair number of aftermarket craftsmen that do much better, so we have left that arena to them. I had hoped to put together some kind of list (with pics) of aftermarket work, but have never had the time.

BTW, are there ferrets in Australia?

Gosh, I thought I was the only one that liked to dress up a Spydie!

I'm currently working on a Wegner with Mother of Pearl accents. I'll post a pic when I'm finished with it. I should have already finished it... but I keep getting side-tracked with those other nasty habits... like work.

WooHoo! Am over the moon! A response from Sal after only a couple of days on BF!!!
There are Ferrets in Oz, they're weasily recognised (not stoatally different)!
...and it came to me in a dream last night - why don't I replace the scales on a renegade? Quick, to the hammer!

Why not a micarta version of the Delica, by Spyderco? I would buy it for one.

Ferret - Sorry for the tardy reply. I was tied up at the SHOT Show.

Beam - we already have enough variations. We would have to drop something to add something.

Whoa Sal!!That was genuine enthusiasm to get a reply from you, sorry if it sounded a bit sacastic. I haven't really got the hang of this smilie thing yet which might have made things clearer.
Thanks for the links all, until Sal cracks and gets purty on us (or purtier!) I've ordered a 2nd Renegade and will get a local maker to rework it with ivory/mother of pearl inlays. Should be sensational. Will keep yis all posted on the results (I guess 4 - 6 weeks away),
Ferret.

double post...sorry.

Hmm... I was just thinking about getting some filework done on a Military. I didn't know who to go to, but after seeing Frank Recupero's site I guess it's sort of a no-brainer. The samples of filework that Recupero does look just amazing. It might be a pain to work on the CPM steel though? I don't know.
