Spyderco sec sale

I couldn't make it to the sale on Saturday, but I will be hitting the SFO tomorrow after going to DIA.

Here's my haul from the second sale. I got there at midnight and was wrist band #12.

Spyderco Display Case (for one dollar!)
3 M4 Manix 2's
Moonglow Manix 2
Manix 2 XL
Persian 2
Para 2 in CTS-20CP
2 Para 2's in S35VN
CF Balance
Caly 3.5 in Super Blue
CF Caly 3 with ZDP-189 Laminate
Stretch
Blue Endura
G-10 Dragonfly
Kiwi
3 Delica 4's (Three are gifts)
Ultra Fine Bench Stone
Medium and Fine profile stones
Byrd Duckfoot

It was fairly cold and windy over the night, but the sale as a whole was fantastic! I'm extremely pleased with my purchases (and the prices!), and I was able to get a few knives as gifts. Spyderco handled the sale very well and I think that both the limit of 25 and the wristbands were good ideas to help control the crowd. The Spyderco crew was very helpful in looking for specific models, as well. All you had to do was mention what you were looking for and they're try to help you hunt it down.

I'll definitely be going again next year!

How quickly did the line build through the night? Was it crazy long by the time it got light?

I don't know what would qualify as crazy long, but it went from the front door west around the corner, the length of the west side of the building and around the corner to the north side of the building before dawn.

The line started building up pretty good at around 4:30 to 5:00am. I've got to say that it was a real pleasure chatting with fellow knife enthusiasts in person and not just online. We were all discussing our favorite models, pulling out the knives we were carrying and talking about which knives we wanted to find during the sale so that we could keep an eye out for one another. Somebody else was looking for a Chokwe, so I was able to get one in my basket, hunt him down later and watch his eyes light up as I gave it to him (since he wasn't able to find one). Lots of fun.

Did folks bring lawn chairs to sit on? And were there any'facilities' in the area? I'm thinking really hard about driving out from Oklahoma next year. I've never done the overnight wait for tickets or Black Friday (They started pitching tents at stores here on Wednasday afternoon) so I'm not really sure how to prepare. Should I have a second person with me to hold the spot in case of a call of nature? Or will folks respect your place and let you come back in the same spot?

Yes, a bunch of us had chairs. No, there are no facilities in the immediate area. The folks around me at the front of the line were very understanding and honored places in line. Most of us had to step out at one time or another, and there was no claim jumping. A second person wouldn't be a bad idea, though.

Pretty much everyone that was in line over the night had sleeping bags or a lawn chair, and a few had tents. Everybody was really good about respecting peoples' spots in line. There were a few times that I walked over to my car to grab some extra gloves or blankets and nobody tried to move up in line. The peak of the Leonids meteor shower was actually that morning and I stepped out of line for about 15 minutes to go to the dark side of the building to watch the shower.
