I bought a brand new shaman, and wanted to swap the scales out for skinny scales. I was removing the screws and then realized they were stuck pretty bad. Tried heating up the nail and using a hammer on the torx driver and tapping to attempt to break the bond.

nothing. Anyways I ended up stripping the pivot. Any ideas? I got a spare pivot screw but idk how to remove the screw. I don’t have a dremel or any tools since I don’t have a workshop or the money to buy them. So any ideas besides wasting money to send to Spyderco ?

Ive opened a few Shaman and never saw red loc tite. But you will need to drastically heat the pivot to undo that screw.

Or.....

Remove the back side screw and if your lucky , the side with the stripped screw is not stepped and you can rotate the pivot carefully against the screw to break the bond.

Maybe it was blue, but I put so much pressure and ended up rounding the head out and it didn’t budge. It’s just the pivot, other side is out

If you can find a flathead screwdriver that will wedge into the screw head, you can try taping the pivot itself and using vice grips to loosen it while the screwdriver just holds the screw in place. If the knife is already partially disassembled, try putting the tip of a soldering iron down inside the pivot to loosen any Loctite.

This does not seem like a waste of money with the problems you are having and the resources you have at hand. A usual problem is not using a good driver. Cheap ones do not fit well and cause more damage. Not saying you have cheap ones.

Take the other side with the good Pivot screw off. Heat the Pivot.

That being said, not easy to strip a Colorado Pivot screw. Check your driver with a loupe .... might need a new one.

Stop. Stop right now.
Best advice right here.

In general, if you don't have the knowledge or tools to complete a task, it would not be a waste of money to send it off to have someone with the knowledge and tools to complete said task.

There may be some sage advice that comes a long here that can save your mistake. However, given you have gotten yourself in the situation you currently are, with a lack of skills and knowledge and tools, what would make you think you will not mess up what will undoubtedly be a complicated and risky repair? I'd cut my losses and send it in. Or break it further and send it in. Your choice.

One side of the pivot is keyed with a flat surface. The non-lock side liner hole is D-shaped to accept it.

I'm sure you don't want to hear this (you've made that clear by now), but your best bet would be to send it in to Spyderco before you make things worse. It's not money wasted if they're fixing your mistake. Or, you could keep trying and make it worse.

Oh but wait...Spyderco CS says there’s “no other loctite but blue in the factory” ...
Your contempt for Spyderco has become quite tiresome. :poop: O_o

No, I’ve spent thousands of $ over years on their products (which make up a majority of my collection) and plan to continue to with the Siren and Watu soon; I just don’t like to see their QC showing signs of slipping, specifically in Golden, and don’t want to see Golden turn into another Benchmade.

There’s no excuse for CS reps lying to people, however.

The email you'll get from Spyderco after making that request will make even the strictest school mother blush. They'll fix it, but it may not be worth the guilt they're gonna lay on you.

Just ignore him. Moment you disagree with him he gets all defensive and wants to force his opinions on you.

So if you notice the OP said "red" in the title and then later said "maybe it was blue'.

They stopped using red three years ago. So if someone told me there is no red Loctite in the factory I would believe that.
