Spyderco Southard or ZT 561?

I have both and both are great knives. The Southard carries better but my 0560 is a bit smoother opening. Overall though I think if I could own just one I would have to go with the Southard. It rides well in the pocket and has as much cutting surface. The 0560 is just a little too big for every day carry. IMO

I prefer the 561. It is a little on the larger side but I prefer larger knives for edc.

I don't have the knife so no help there. There's a search botton top right of page... I don't know why people who do nothing more than write a 2-5 sentence post.just to be a dick... For real. Your gonna find these kinda people on ever forums. Just ignor them because there the real trolls.... Don't worry this is just a site. There no way anyone is gonna really fight....

Ok I see the search button. Thanks man!

I just watched a video review of the Southard by Blade HQ.
he said the knife is made in Taiwan!

For $250, you can keep it.
I know it has a different blade steel, but they are very similar in many ways.

I have nothing against overseas produced knives, I own several.
If I am spending that kind of money on a knife, I would much rather support American workers.

ZT 0561

American made
Deep carry clip (some folks don't like it)
I feel it "holds" better in my hand (probably due to the machining and aggressive jimping).

Cons: Size. Although YMMV. I personally like carrying a large knife, some don't. The blade length, IMHO, is perfect.

The Southard is a nice knife. But after carrying it for a week, I simply had to return it. Both are very SMOOTH opening knives, excellent build quality. My 0561 went back to being my EDC.

You carry a knife for a week, then return it for a refund?

Both are great knives, but they're fighting in different weight classes. The ZT is a much larger knife--it's a half inch longer closed and almost two ounces heavier, a tank by comparison.

They're both on the ugly side, IMO, but I think I have an aversion to dirt-colored scales.

Actually no. I'm no troll just a noob to the site. I'm just as obsessed with knives as you all are. I might have asked a stupid question but I'm no troll..thanks

Your name is spyderslut yet you made a thread about choosing between a Spyderco and a ZT and you made exactly the same thread that's open right now: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1022786-ZT-0561-or-Southard-or?highlight=southard

If you aren't failtrolling you need to learn to use the search function.

May not be the best choice for a username but I fail to see trolling. As to the search function I only post that because some forums do not allow non paying members to use it.

Sounds like a jerk move to me.
Hell at least I didn't carry my Southard or even use it. I held it, inspected what I could under loupe/microscope.

Decided I liked my 561 better. And now that I think about it, my 561 is a bit more comfortable.

The LEO/MIL distributer I bought it from has a no-hassle refund guarantee. I don't like it, I can return it.

Actually, I carried it more like 10 days. With some field use. The 561 took the time off attached to my vest [and now, back to my pocket).

Sounds like living in a bubble. I don't need to microscopically inspect a knife that I intend on using. If it works, it does. If it doesn't, like the Southard, it doesn't.
