Spyderco Southard problem

I sent my Southard back to Spyderco today but I should probably have asked here first. The frame lock is so stiff that I cannot work it one handed. Is this normal? I knew I would need to replace the clip and the scale but this is a make or break issue for me. I've gotten spoiled by one hand knives over the years and even more spoiled by the Spyderco Calypso. I probably should have just bought another of the same.

Confusing...

You sent it back to Spyderco for?

It came back with the lock bar tension being way too tight?

Am I on the right track??!

Never mind, If I read the OP really slow and a few times, it makes sense..

As posted above, Spyderco had exceptional CS, and will take good care of you.

Very odd. Mine is not stiff at all (wasn't that way new either) and is one of my favorites. They'll fix you up and you'll love it!!

First, welcome to the forum.

Second, if you were having a legitimate issue with the knife then sending it to Spyderco was the right thing to do. They have excellent CS and will certainly fix anything that might be wrong.

I also would like to point out that there's a Spyderco specific Manufacturer's forum where you might get better response to future Spyderco related questions.

Wow!! My Southard was simple to un lock right out of the box! Like BB, mine is my favorite Spydie for sure!
Let us know how it is when it gets back to you.

Any part of you hand resting on the lockbar when you are attempting to open it? Many frame locks will be more difficult, some near impossible, to open if any additional pressure is placed on the bar, largely dependent on the shape of the blade, it's contact points and the type of detent.

A full ground Dice isn't affected by pressure on the lockbar. Neither will the Techno. Most ZTs are, from my experience. BM too.

It depends though. Hope it work out for you. Kind of the nature of the beast/design.

It open OK it just won't close.

Sounds like you might be getting lock stick between the Ti frame and the CTS-204P blade steel. That's why it deploys fine but doesn't want to unlock. It's not terribly uncommon on Spyderco Ti frame locks and if so, Spydie service should be able to take care of it for you. Next thing to check for when it comes back is lock play. Often fixing stick can lead to play.
