Spyderco Southard - The REAL Deal **EXTRA Pic Heavy**

Yes the Southard has really grown on me and I must admit I am quite fond of it for EDC. You are right about a lot of blade in little package, and I do like the departure from ultra tacticool

I bought two NIB. Let them both get away in order to pay some bills. When I do get more money, I'll buy one again. Great knife.

for the price, I can get a pretty good auto knife. I'll hold off on buying this one.

well what the heck. I can afford both, so I went ahead and got a Southard flipper and a new auto.

Just received my Southard yesterday, and so far I am very impressed. It is only my second Spyderco.

Nice review, and pics!

Great photos and review. I mostly agree, though I'd nitpick and say that the clip is too pointy and shiny, and the G-10 is too, uh, brown.

I'm loving mine, I'm carrying it almost all the time. It's a big little knife, so it's becoming a bit of a one-stop shop for me . . . mine is dressed up a bit and pretty enough for business attire, but sturdy enough not to pine for my BM 710 when I'm going casual.

In any case, it's an easy knife to love when you're holding it. :)

I fixed mine too. I took it off. ;) :D

The Southard is a great knife. It's just a little heavy for what I use an EDC for. But it's a keeper nonetheless.

That will be my first Spyderco.

Probably in about a year when I recover from last week's Benchmade Binge.

I haven't used many flippers, just the ones on the three CRKT M16s I've owned over the years, but I love the one on the M16-01KZ I've currently got. The Southard looks like the flipper is basically identical to the CRKT in execution. That's great, looks like enough protrusion, but not some gargantuan hangup waiting to happen.

Thanks for an excellent review of the Southard. The only thing I wish that it had was a functional choil.

Received mine 4 days ago and changed it to a tip down carry. Very pleased with the knife. Competing with my Para for pocket time. Well made product from Spyderco. Really like the pivot bearing system. Quite a bit of cutting edge for a blade under 3.5"

i couldn't find any info on the rockwell hardness of the southard, so I figure I ask here. Does anyone know?

Quite a bit of cutting edge for a blade under 3.5"

yes, in this aspect the southard is really outstanding.

Very well detailed review. Almost wanted to get one until I saw it was a Taiwan knife and would rather pay such price for an American knife instead. If that knife was made in America, then it would be a different story.
