Spyderco Street Beat vs Fallkniven wm1

Sorry no experience with the SB. I've had the WM1 for a while now and my initial impression was the handle was going to be too small and I think getting smaller knives for survival purposes will always have compromises.

Though after a bit of use I have found that slight adjustments to my grip was enough to allow the WM1 to handle all tasks asked of it comfortably, even heavier tasks, it just took a little getting used to. For me the appeal of the WM1 lies in it's diminutive package and the convex grind on the WM1 really makes this knife shine IMO.:)

But it would also be intresting to know, why guys, who bought wm1 did not buy street beat and vise versa. By far if my memory serves, only the concerns of small and thin handle in wm1 and agressive look of ST and less comfortable sheath were mentioned.

when i bought my WM1, i got an S1 at the same time.

the decision was between the Fallknivens and an ESEE5/Izula combo. i went with the Fallknivens largly because of materials and grind.

Lam VG-10 & 3G vs 1095
Convex grind vs Flat grind.

the WM1 is a very sheeple friendly knife, which is important when you live in a country with idiotic knife laws like Australia.

+1.

with a bit of creativity, you can get a WM1 to do some of the tasks you would usually look to a much bigger blade for.

if SHTF and all i had is my WM1, i rekon i'd be well ahead of the curve.

I'll bet on my sheeple friendly, iron clad 100% guaranteed Izula ove a WM1 any day. You get this much for the same price and this is what you can do with one! :)

I would have confidence in either one rising to the task and getting the job done.

My vote however would have to go for the WM1 with regard to looking a bit less intimidating to non-knife folks.

I have and use a WM1 and it is a great knife. Has never let me down.

Don't have an Izula, but do do have an RC4 and suspect the Izula is the same great quality. Although I'm personally not a fan of coated blades.

Not familiar with the Street Beat, so can't comment.

As I posted earlier my Street Beat was very nice, but the sheath was way too big for the knife and they're a bit overpriced IMHO. :)

By the way, I saw that you live in Sweden, so I quess the price for fallkniven knives can be better there. Do you know any reliable on-line shops with resonable prises, which also ship internationally (I am from Lithuania)?

Hi Alex !

Fällkniven are not cheaper in Sweden , as far as I know ,
and I never buy on-line , so I´m no help at all ,

and you had to wait for my reply , Sorryz !:o

For SD I would probably opt for the Streat Beat. I really love the handle on that knife and the solid lock-up it gives you with a good grip. Of course, the down side to the handle is that it works best with a forward, edge-down grip which not everyone prefers.

i seriously doubt there is anything you can do with an Izula that you can't do with a WM1.

besides, i use mine for dressing game. i wouldn't want to use a paracord wrapped handle for such an icky task (yes, i know you can get Izula scales.....).

You miss my point. Look in your wallet after purchasing the WM1 and you'll find it a lot lighter than if you'd bought the Izula. In regard to the mess left by dressing game getting embedded in a paracord wrap. That would call for an Izula as mfg'd, w/o any wrapping.

I don't consider the Izula the "be all, end all," small FB knife. The WM1 is excellent, just a bit expensive to me and with the exception of a few tasks, not the knife I'd buy over an Izula.

Enjoy your WM1! :)

believe me, i went through a long and involved decision process before settling on the Fallknivens.

the ESEE5/Izula combo outlasted a lot of other manufacturers offerings.

yes, the Fallknivens are more expensive than the ESEE knives. i can't dispute that.

ultimatly, it was materials and grind that sold me on the swedish blades.

Enjoy your WM1! :)

i do.

i use it a lot and enjoy using it. i'm very glad i also bought a couple of Mora Clippers at the same time to hand out to people who ask to borrow my knife.

i'll probably wind up getting some ESEE knives in the near future. i really like teh HEST model. it looks to be very practical and have some very funky innovations going.

I purchased a Street Beat, gave it to my son, and bought another! They are amazing little beasts. Another different choice might be the Busse Mean Street. I have one of those but its the limited edition so I don’t really want to use it much.
You cannot go wrong with the Street Beat for a EDC.
(Wow, over a decade later. I suppose you already made a choice!)

I have WM1, have not used it much, but since you can hold it differently, you can get used to it. As an option, I think you can get scales for the Izula.
