At BF, the seller is responsible to get the item into the buyer's hands, not just take it to the post office. Therefore insurance protects the seller, not the buyer. If the seller does not insure the item and the item goes missing in transit, the sales price is expected to be refunded to the buyer.

Sellers/Selling -
  1. Be 100% sure that you want to sell the item, and clearly list the TOTALselling price.
    • There is no "testing the waters" or "gauge buyer interest".
    • "Net to me" needs to be figured into your LISTED PRICE
    • Insurance is the responsibility of the SELLER not the Buyer. This is for your protection.

I have purchased many knives here where insurance was offered separately. Am I all of a sudden doing it wrong?

Also I purchased a knife last week and it was not insured. Was I slightled in the transaction?

If we don't see it, we don't correct it. Way too many sales threads for us to check them all.

An item does not need to be insured as long as the seller knows he is putting himself at risk. If the item is not insured and it disappears in transit, the seller is the one who must return the funds. So insurance protects the seller, not the buyer. Therefore in that transaction last week, you as the buyer, were not at risk.
