Spyderco Take down.

I've used it before and it does dry very fast, leaving nothing behind. I want to think it contains acetone, and that is what allows it to dry so fast. But I could be mistaken.

Yeah - looked it up. Acetone does a heck of a job on grease, paint, and impossible to remove stuff.

Cleans and dries quickly
Stops brake squeaks and chatter
Cleans brake hard parts as well as linings
Leaves no residue

Removes Super Glue from my fingers good too (fingernail polish remover) :D

Brake cleaner DOES leave a residue behind. Not all brands are the same.

In the context of knife pivots, there may be no residue left behind *that causes any problems*, but I assure you (with most brands at least) there is a residue. Spray some on glass and watch it dry, then feel the glass. Some brands leave an oily residue that will RADICALLY impact mountain bike brake performance;)

Just a little caution to wear eye protection when blasting with any aerosol, especially something nasty like brake cleaner or carb cleaner. Its fun to carry a Spydie folder, but even more fun if you haven't dissolved your corneas.

As for disassembly - just do it if you feel the need. Its not brain surgery, and even one of the more difficult ones like the Endura can be put back together if you get a trick or two off of youtube. And the worst thing that can happen is that you totally screw it up and have to pay Spyderco to put Humpty Dumpty back together again. Live on the edge!
