I'll be a lot of you have seen my Spyderco "rant", which was not that, but a post written in a hurry about something I say on a video, without any prior knowledge of Spyderco. :( Sorry for sounding like an asinine, uneducated troll, that's not what I meant by it. :o

Anyway, some posters have convinced me to get myself a Spyderco and see for myself how good they are... what about the Tenacious? I'm looking for an entry level Spydie, so around $40 is good. Any suggestions?

Dont sweat it hunter. Look into the Endura or Delica. Both are really good knives.

Glad to see you're trying to turn things around.

Here's some advise:

Read more, post less.

Try not to give opinions about knives (or steels) you've never used.

Get some knives and use them for a while--then come and post what you like or don't like about them.

No experience with the Tenacious (yet) but the FRN Dragonfly is hard to beat for around $40 and is a great entry level Spyderco.

I've seen it for under $30 w/ free shipping. It's a pretty nice knife and one of the few I have two of.

I cannot comment on the Tanacious because I do not own one.

I do own a Persistence (kind of a mini Tenacious) and I highly recommend it for an entry level Spydie. Especially if your upper limit is $40.

Believe it or not, I like my Persistence even better than my Benchmade Mini Grip. I didn't expect to but that's the way it turned out.

I think you will get lots of positive comments about the Tenacious.

the tenacious is great except for cutting guitar strings and other hard wires while in a "friends" care and if your looking for a home made custom serrated one i might have what your looking for

but overall its a great knife, and im sure that other posters that have used the other members of the tenacious family will comment,

another line you might want to look at is the byrd line, spydercos chinese produced group, basically taking the designs of the spydies and making them with 8cr13mov steel, they still have the QC but are far cheaper

+1
Oh and FMJ, don't beat yourself up about it, as you spend more time on the forums you'll learn a lot more about the knife world :D Soon you'll be spending the big bucks on the better knives and you'll be hooked like the rest of us.

hands down get a tenacious. you can get it less than $30 with free shipping on a popular online marketplace. i got mine a month ago(first spyderco btw) and been carrying it everyday since. in fact, i just bought a para-military 2 today. once you get a taste you'll want the whole cake!

Hi Hunter,

As mentioned, the Tenacious or Delica would be good entry level Spyderco's.

I recently got a Tenacious, and must say that I am impressed with the quality of the knife for the money. Great fit and finish. Smooth function (opening and closing). Takes a fine edge without much fuss, and has decent edge retention with cutting up cardboard boxes. Good ergonomics and balance.
Go for it. A great knife that you wont fret about carrying.

I own many $100+ knives and the tenacious blew me away. It has unbelievable quality, ergonomics, and performance for the price. In my opinion it outperforms knives three to five times its cost in every category except edge retention, which is not a big deal for me because I always touch up the edge of my EDC at the end of the day before putting it away. The edge retention isn't bad, just not as good as more expensive steels obviously.

The Tenacious is a great knife for the price.

I was really impressed by how good of a knife it was for the money.

The Tenacious was my first spyderco, but if I had to do things over, I'd opt for something with better steel, like the Delica. I will never buy another 8cr13MoV blade again. :barf:

I myself like the tenacious. I havn't had it long but it was supremly sharp right out of the box! Sharper than two kershaws I just picked up. It feels really good in the hand to boot! Get one, you won't be disappointed.

What's wrong with 8cr13MoV? Doesn't hold a good edge?

8Cr will take an awesome edge, it will get extremely sharp. The disadvantage is in the edge holding. If you use it on say a lot of cardboard, it will need to be sharpened a little more frequently than say VG10. If you keep the same angel on the knife that it comes with (don't reprofile) it will last a good long time under normal use.
