Spyderco Tenacious (and rant apology)

What's wrong with 8cr13MoV? Doesn't hold a good edge?

Lots of folks think it's alright, but I find it does not hold a good edge at all. When I was using my Tenacious as my work knife (cutting cardboard, tape, the occasional light prying, all day long), I found the edge would tend to chip really easily and would have to be sharpened after every single day of work. It's not some god-awful pot metal that won't take an edge, and there are definitely worse steels out there, but I was pretty disappointed with it. I'm not even a big steel snob - most of my user knives have been made with simple steels like 13c26, 440C, 440A, AUS-8, and whatever that stuff Victorinox uses.

Anywho, it really didn't keep its edge long enough for my standards, which aren't high in the first place...

Sounds good. I am lucky to live right next to a Chrise Reeves Knives store, and they sharped for $4, so if I want a really good edge on it, then I'll take it there.

I have never owned a spidie just cuz I dont care for the look with the thumb hole. I totally understand the concept and think that is a good one, they just look way off balance to me. the handle to blade ratio seems off.

Yes, Spyderco knives look funny, but they work extremely well. After using one for real work, it becomes beautiful.

Tenacious is is a nice entry level Spyderco.
However I would save a bit more for a Delica, as it's such a classic and it is high performing.
And the one I really recommend is the Stretch, any version, even the cheapest one. Yet a bit more costly than Delica, but the result of perfect evolution.

My Tenacious with my new Persistence......both very nice for the $$

Note: the Persistence is not so "mini"
