Spyderco Tenacious - My First Impression

Rasco, I believe that most folks have a pretty high opinion of the Tenacious and its siblings. I sure do. You get a decent steel, G10, 4-way clip, Spydie hole and more for not much coinage. I have heard of one other blade-retention complaint besides yours, but that's about it. I love the entry level Kershaws too, btw. But the Tenacious lineup is a big seller for Spyderco, and there is a reason why. Many people think they rock.

Noodle, what's that blue-handled Spydie down at the bottom? That is pretty darn slick.

I've spent the last few hours back at work, handling the Tenacious and I will say that for $30, I would be pleased with THE SECOND one that I got.
For whatever reason, the first one felt like it had had all it's torx turned a quarter turn loose or something. Maybe with some adjusting I coulda fixed that, but come on, I've bought cheaper Kershaws that come out of the box pretty much perfectly dialed in.

A quick look on BladeHQ shows the Kershaw "Tremor" at $19, and it is very similar to the Tenacious imo.
So again, I am not displeased with the Spyderco Tenacious overall, I just think they are aiming a little too high on the price.
Then again, I'm just a dumbass. Obviously they are selling just fine at $30-40. I'm only speaking as a consumer.

All I can say is, if you REALLY dislike flippers and you REALLY enjoy deploying your blade via a big round hole, the Tenacious is probably totally worth it to you.

Ok, so...
Second knife arrived. It is the exact same one. Called Amazon. Got a refund. Ordering the Pacific Salt from BladeHQ.

OOC, were you ordering from Amazon, or through one of the 3rd party sellers on the site? Cause I've ordered hundreds of items from there, over 10 years time, and I NEVER had them send me the same wrong product twice. Hell, it's extremely rare I've gotten the wrong product once, so it just seems odd that you are having such issues...

I was wondering the same thing. I have their PRIME membership and have ordered too many things to count and never gotten the wrong item. Its very weird that the same mistake happen twice.

As far as my Tenacious, I love it. For $30, its solid. I got my co worker the fully serrated version and it was solid as well. My friends who is newer to knives and bought a PM2 from me a while ago was at my house today and I was showing him the Tenacious. I had him inspect it and when he was done I asked how much he thought it cost. He immediatley responded with "$100/close to the PM2?". It might not be for everyone but I think it is an outstanding knife for the value.

That's an Ambitous - the smallest member of the Tenacious family: Blade HQ link. You have to be careful when you carry it, though, because of all of the lustful stares it generates in any hot chicks that see it. You've been warned.

I put mine through dry wall and other abuse and the edge didnt so much at chip or roll. I have never had it open on me either. That being said I dont carry it much, I prefer fixed blades. But its a fun to abuse knife.

I'd have to go back and check but I'm pretty sure it was directly from Amazon. It qualified for Amazon Prime, so that's coming straight from Amazon, right?

I called and spoke to some guy who refunded me the money and I told him to let the Warehouse or Inventory team, or whoever, know that these are Tenacious boxes mislabeled as Pacific Salts.

Anyway, BladeHQ shipped out (what I can safely presume will be) the correct knife today, so hopefully all is well.

Damnit.
This thing is growing on me...
I'm still in possession of the 2nd Tenacious I mistakenly got from Amazon (UPS guy tried to pick it up once, I was in the shower, he han't been back for weeks) and I couldn't just let it sit in the box any longer. I think Amazon may have written it off, not sure. I already got my refund from them and ordered and have received the Spyderco Salt from BladeHQ.

So sure enough, I switched the clip to tip up, right hand and I've been carrying it the past few days.

I feel like "that gear reviewer who shall not be named" because I think he had a similar experience in terms of slooowly warming up to the Tenacious and having to admit a changed opinion.
So for me, this knife made a lackluster first impression, but the more time I spend with it, the more it has grown on me.
Still think the price point is a little high, but people say that about the Skyline too. I think it's just a side-effect of popularity.

The extra label is not a Spyderco applied label. It looks like the Amazon seller's label to keep track of their inventory and they have a flaw in their data. I believe you will have better luck ordering from an authorized Spyderco Retailer. Good luck with your next order!
