Spyderco Tenacious or Kershaw Skyline??

I would go with the skyline because of the better steel and it's also US made. 14c28n is quite a bit better then the 8cr13mov used in the tenacious. Both are good though but I think the skyline is better IMO.

I'll vote Tenacious. Gifted a few of these. Invariably, the recipient loves the knife.

But seriously, either one you'll love. Get both! (Had to be the first to say it, since nobody else has)

Both are good knives. Steel is similar (at least how Spyderco does 8Cr13MoV). The Tenacious is more of a hand-filling design that I find more comfortable for extended use. The Skyline is slimmer, easier to carry and has a cooler opening mechanism.

You really can't go wrong with either.

I have a Byrd Cara Cara 2 and a Skyline. I like the Skyline's steel better. I carry the Cara Cara because it has a stronger tip and isn't as heavy as a JYD II, but I use the Skyline a lot at home.

I ordered a skyline and a clash, and I'm going down to the local department store on friday to pick up and oso sweet on sale. and in my amazon cart 'save for later' section there's a tenacious and a ZT350(that one is getting saved for MUCH later) and a rajah III among others.

Curious, how do they do 8CR compared to others?

From my experience it's a little bit harder than the other 8Crs that I've handled, and edge retention is a little bit better. Not miles and away better but enough to be noticeable when used every day.

Definitely skyline, not even a competition if you've used both. Also, no Chinese or Taiwanese knives for me.

Even though I love Spyderco knives more than anything, Kershaw is the better knife (in the case). I found the 14c28n steel held a better edge than the Chinese steel on the value line.

I've carried the tenacious for the last 6 months or so. nice knife, holds a good edge, opens as smooth as any of my other spydercos, smoother than a few.
good solid lock, handle is just right. fills the hand nice. as for the other spydercos i own that i compared it to, everything from early enduras to a couple starmates and lums so I'm not a spyderco newbie.
I'd go with the spyderco, the early 80s kershaws did me in on the knives, they are better than they used to be tho, still not a spyderco.(even a Chinese one)

I've had the same experience with the Tenacious. They do a very good job with their 8CR, and a lot of the knives I've seen on the market in that steel seem to suggest that because it's an inexpensive steel, they don't have to do a good job on HT. If it's up against Kershaw, however, you can be assured that both companies will do a good job. I have never seen Kershaw do a poor job with their steel.

I still prefer the edge profile of the Tenacious to the Skyline. With regular maintenance, I personally feel that it's a better cutter. But that's just my experience. Other folks may vary. I use my EDC's primarily for office related tasks.

Out of the two definitely the Skyline. The Tenacious is a great folder for what it is but for practically the same price the Skyline with its steel is a steal (sorry, couldnt resist).

+1 on the Skyline. I just got one very recently, and I'm liking it quite a lot. It's light, thin, and cuts great for what I've used it for so far (mostly opening packages, breaking down boxes, and I even sharpened a pencil just for fun). I don't own a Tenacious but have handled one briefly. It is a bigger, heavier, and bulkier knife than the Skyline. Not having really used it, I can't comment on how well it performs, but based on my usage of some other Spydercos, I'd expect it to cut very well.

People here can argue about the different quality steel or where the knife was made or whatever. But value wise, these are 2 excellent folders that can be had for similar prices. The deciding factors are really looks (do you like the Spyderco leaf-shaped blade or the streamlined look of the Skyline?) and more importantly how they will feel in your pocket: the Tenacious is substantial while you'll barely know the Skyline is there.

I have both and work in an office setting. There the Tenacious is too much knife for my pocket, while the Skyline is perfect. Change the setting and you'll likely get a different result.
