Spyderco Tenacious vs Kershaw Skyline

There is absolutely no comparison in my opinion.

US-made Spyderco knives are superior in almost every way except for the price factor. You will instantly know which one was made in the US once you hold it and compare it to Byrd or even the Tenacious line which is a step up or sorts. I know Byrds are good knives for the money, and they have good quality control, but Golden Spydercos are simply better knives.

Most of the handles of the more expensive Spyderco knives I've seen look like the handles are cheap plastic like the $2 knock off knives you see all the time :( The Tenacious uses a nice looking plain G10 handle. I've never handled a high end Spyderco, so I'm going simply on pictures.

Tenacious all the way.

Controlled opening
Full flat grind
Easier lock
Better grip
Stronger construction
Lanyard hole
Tip up/down L&R

Having owned both, both are good for the money. The Tenacious was stouter, heavier, and has the better deployment mechanism. The skyline is very light while still being capable, and it's made in the USA. For this last reason alone, I give the nod to the skyline.

I own both. The Skyline is a great knife for the money and it includes a large blade of high-quality steel for the money. That said, the Tenacious is a much more substantial, ergonomic knife and is an unbeatable deal.

The two knives are quite different in their roles, but both work for an EDC. The Spyderco Tenacious is on the larger side of my EDC size and weight category. I would actually compare it more to the Kershaw Blur that I picked up for not that much more money off of Ebay and got a much better knife, though if you want what I would call a hefty EDC blade, the Tenacious is a good enough pick.

I prefer the Skyline for what it is. A nice, light weight slicer, that fits my hand really well, nice and grippy and made from decent material. It would be better if the flipper had assisted opening and it takes a little getting used to its flipping method. The opening method is one thing I prefer about the Tenacious, though around the office and for house duties I rather have the Skyline.

I bought a Tenacious and a skyline about the same time. I kept the Tenacious, I sold the Skyline. It was a good knife, but It didnt feel as good in my hand as the Ten., it didnt lock up anywhere near as solid as my Ten., it didnt open as as easily as my Ten., and they were both equally as sharp out of the box. I will give the G10 on the skyline the edge as it was quite more grippy.

I sold the Skyline because I got tired of it's bead blasted finish developing new rust spots nearly every day I carried it. Thats a no bueno for me.

To each his own.
