SpyderCo Tenacious vs Manix 2

I have a Manix 2 in S110V and it kicks tail, definitely recommend it! Delica 4 and Endura 4 are nice too if you want something lighter and easier to sharpen. Like an earlier post said though, the Manix lightweight models are kind of best of both worlds... with the manix blade and the lightweight FRN handle like they use on the Delica.

I honestly think it's hard to go wrong with Spyderco unless you start looking at some of the collab. models and even most of those are super nice EDC/ job site blades.

Off Topic: It just hit me with the title of this thread.... Revelation. Spider Company..... Spyderco.... Spy-der-co. I wonder how Sal pronounces it? It never dawned on me before this thread. Anyone else? I always said "Spy-der-co" or three syllables and as a result never put two and two together.

Well, the Manix 2 just got delivered and I have to say Im pretty disappointed.

- The action is not very smooth for a $93.00 knife (I'm used to the smoothness of a Griptilian and Para 2)
- It feels cheap and plasticky in hand probably do to the lack of steel liners. Oddly enough the Delica 4 feels more solid than this and it's pretty much made of the same materials.
- I was expecting more from the ball bearing lock.

I ended up ordering a Paramilitary 2 with black blade and black G10 Scales:
  • I had one before and ended up selling it to get a Griptilian 550HGB instead and it never did sit right with me So now I'll have both.
  • I love the action on the Para 2 and compression lock.

Where the heck did you order from that you got it delivered in less than 6 hours?

The Manix LW in cts bd1 is one of those knives when you handle it for the first time you will kinda go...meh...

Then, you start to use it.

A month later when you look through your choices to carry you start to realize how amazing it is. Smooth opening. Super light. Awesome ergos. Steel that gets crazy sharp and comes back easy with a few passes on a good stone. No rust....ever. Awesome pocket clip. I wish I bought 10 more when they were 50 bucks.

Oh sorry I ordered it the day before but wasn't sure how I felt about it ;)
Ah okay I just reread your opening post, I thought you were trying to decide between them, didn't realize you had already picked one.
You really shouldn't have bought it from amazon, there's a good chance you ended up with a fake. They mix supply from third party distributors in with their inventory so there's no telling where it came from.

I don't know. It was in a genuine Spyderco box and sealed. The blade looked and locked solid. The handles on the other hand felt like a delica with no weight to them. /shrug

Bro, its a lightweight. Did you really think it wouldnt feel plasticky? It pretty much made out of only plastic material. The exact reason you dont like it is the exact reason guys buy them. To have a light bare minimum blade. What you really needed was the standard g10 manix 2 and give it a minute to break in.

This is true. The Manix 2LW felt like a cheap toy to me when I first got it. Took me a few weeks to warm up to it and now I love it. Light may feel cheap at first IME.

Same with the Benchmade Bugout actually.

My Delica 4 feels more solid in hand and it's the same plastic. I'm pretty sure the G10 version of the manix 2 has steel liners and feels better as well.

Anyhow, I got a Para 2 with a DLC coated blade instead which has better steel, G10 scales, steel liners and the compression lock which feels better to engage and disengage compared to the manix 2. All is good.

You definitely got the wrong knife if your wants from the knife were the action and a premium feel. It's a durable knife that is light with a full sized grip and great ergos. It's a work horse.

What were you expecting from the lock that it didn't deliver? It's one of the best features of the Manix to me.

Also FYI but the delica has steel liners

Edit: And to help answer your original question, the Shaman and Military come with a plain edge DLC option, and the lil native will be coming out in DLC. The karahawk is a plain edge in black ti-cn.

I bought an endura from Amazon because I had a gift card and the fake that they sent me would have fooled plenty of people (non knife nuts).
The spyderco box was slightly different, frn texture was different and less grippy, different washers, etc.

Regarding the lock I was expecting a more solid feel like the axis lock on my griptilian.

They definitely have a break-in period for both the action and the lock. Give it some time.

It's also FRN instead of FRCP. They have a different feel. The FRCP is a little "crunchier". You can hear it creak under pressure. I like the material, but it definitely feels a little more plasticky than FRN.

This is just a case of unreasonable expectation and buyers remorse. Glad to see the OP managed to find something to his liking though.

I'm not sure where you are drawing this conclusion from. I own two Delica 4's and they are have some weight to them despite having FRN scales. The Manix 2 for being a larger and heavier knife just doesn't feel the same. It could be due to the lack of steel liners. Rather than settle for a Tenacious with mov steel and a inferior blade coating I merely upped my budget and got the Para 2 instead.

You said yourself that you were expecting the lock to feel like an axis. It doesn't. Unlined FRCP also doesn't feel like FRN with steel liners.

I'm not faulting you for it, you were just expecting a feel that the knife wasn't built to deliver. No biggie. They're easy to sell or return. The PM2 is a great knife and I'm sure you'll love it.
