I need your advice for a new edc.

In your opinion, which knife is the overall best for an EDC beater?

1. Spyderco Tenacious
2. Ontario Rat 1
3. Insert any other knife in the $30 price range

Discuss :)

Don't have a rat 1 but tenacious is a good beater I've heard rat 1 is better but don't know first hand

Yup, I have a rat-1 and I like it quit a bit. The Liner for the liner lock is super thick! So it will most likely hold together against some moderate abuse, but then again it is still a liner lock so i wouldn't baton with it. :)

Almost every Sanrenmu knife there is(Search them up).
Kershaw Asset Compound Tremor Drone Brawler and other budget Kershaws.
Volcan Coronado.

I'd go with the RAT. It just seems stronger to me. And it simply FLIES out of the handle! I love my RAT and just ordered the coyote brown model for work. Also, ordered the blue and green versions of the Tenacious, too! Can't have too much of a good thing! :D

Have both Tenacious and RAT-1.
Both are good deals for the price.
I'd have to give the nod to the Tenacious for overall quality and value.

+1, the g10 scales do it for me. You won't be disappointed either way.

CS Voyagers - strength, thick and very ergonomic handle, wide stonewashed blade, Tri-AD Lock, dual bronze and teflon washers, under $40.

Better designed for beating on, comfort, efficient use of energy, etc. than most folders regardless of price range.

Thin handles and open-construction is better for carry a lot and use a little.

Just picked up the CRKT Ripple from Walmart. I'm actually surprised at the quality. Solid lock up, perfect centering, sharp, and excellent F&F considering it was priced at just under $30. The IKBS is incredibly smooth, I wish more knives would use it.

KaBar Dozier is another knife in that price range that is recommended.

I have not handled any of the others but I do have a Tenacious and I like it. I think the Tenacious is a classier knife than the others, mostly because of its G10 scales vs. the others that I think are all FRN. I think I need to buy a Rat for my own to try out.

Also the overlooked Kershaw Clash. Another great one at around $23-28. Looks great with the bead blast polished off!

The Tenacious wins it for me.
Hell of a knife for $30.

But, I have to say that the Kershaw Skyline is a hell of an EDC especially at its price.

For well under $20 shipped to your door, the Enlan EL-01(KH) makes for one heckuva beater knife... :)

Byrd Cara Cara 2. The FRN feels much better but the G10 has a better lockup. I don't see the point of the other two knives. Also, Tenacious fans seem to have a problem with grammar and basic sentence structure. :p
