So, I've been eyeballing the Spyderco Tenacious, and I absolutely love the way it looks. I've read a handful of reviews, and watched a few on Youtube. I would like the opinion and advice of someone who has handled one. Thank you!

The Tenacious is a very nice budget knife that I honestly think has outgrown the budget aspect by a bit. I honestly think the Byrd line offers most of the same advantages, made by the same manufacturer and give you a bit more bang for the buck.

I think the Tenacious is way under rated.. I put a roof on my garage (installed a peaked on top of a flat roof) afew yrs ago and used the Tenacious in place of a utility knife.. Cut up all kinds of material, scored aluminum for cutting/bending on a brake, also shingles.. The steel while not shaving sharp at the end of the week was still cutting fine.. All these uses and no hot spots while gripping the handle..

Also like very much that the cutting edge goes to the handle and no choil.. I know some feel this is a safety issue but as long as you pay attention it should not be.. That's all.. John:thumbup:

I bought an Ambitious (smaller Tenacious) a while ago on a whim. I wouldn't normally buy a Chinese knife, but I loved the design. I think if Spyderco made this line in the US with a little better fit and finish, they could easily sell them for twice the Chinese price. My Ambitious needed the pivot adjusted, and the clip bent out a little bit, and the lanyard hole sleeve isn't flush to the handle scales, but for the ~$30 I paid I think it's a great knife. Spydie needs more G10 knives!

Thanks everybody! I think I've made up my mind, I want this knife for sure. Later on when I'm not so short on cash I'll end up getting the Paramilitary 2 (That is, of course, if I end up liking the Tenacious). I appreciate your advice.

You will like it. The quality and f&f are really good. For the money you are paying, the steel 8cr13mov is not bad, although I will certainly not put it in the same ball park of s30v.

I was recently bitten by the Spyderco bug. One of my first purchases was a Persistence because it was inexpensive and I liked the design. Then I bought a Dragonfly and then a Delica. Today I received 3 more Spydies that include a Sage 1 & Sage 2. First I'll say that I love them all for various reasons. After handling all these different knives I've come to the conclusion that the Persistence (and I assume Tenacious & Ambitious) is an excellent value. About the only thing I don't like about it is that it says China on it. Like another member said, if Spyderco made these in the US with a little higher grade materials they could sell a bunch.
With all these new knives I kind of figured that the Persistence would fall out of the EDC rotation but there's no way I'll let this knife sit in a drawer. I like it too much

Good to see this thread, as I have been looking at getting a Tenacious. I thought it looked like a lot of knife for the price point. I'm really more of a slip joint guy and only own one Spyderco currently, a Dragonfly.

The Tenacious was my gateway Spydie too. Loved the PM2, but found it too expensive. After falling in love with the Tenacious, I sold all my Gerbers and Leathermans to get a Paramilitary 2 and a Dragonfly 2 ZDP.
I meant to sell the Tenacious away when the PM2 came and... I just couldn't. The knife is so robust and cool and fun to use. And amazingly in some ways I like it more than the PM2... more beefy, wider blade, nicer flicking action... steel takes an awesome edge too.
Well the PM2 is of course sleeker, has better F&F, far better materials and an awesome locking system, but the Tenacious still kept its place in my edc...

If you want a slipjoint in the same vein as the Tenacious look at the Byrd Tern.

I'm just wondering, did the folks who did the reviews and videos not handle them???
If you know you already LOVE the way it looks...
And if you did already read & watch all those reviews, then you already know it has a very good reputation.

Why even bother asking here?buy the knife you love and has a good review base? Do you want someone to talk you out of it?

Another recommendation for a Spyderco Slip-Joint would the Pingo! I bought one on a whim and was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it after using/carrying it. Really good steel for the money as well.

It's a great introduction knife to Spyderco. Carried and used mine hard for two years working construction and can say it handled everything like a champ in some very rough environments.
Careful...Once the Spydie bug gets under your skin....
You have been warned.

Excellent points, IM!

I have owned a Tenacious and Persistence. Both solid, well-built knives that were both amazing bargains for the price I paid. I think that with the rising price of knives all across the board, the Tenacious may not be the stellar deal it once was, but still very reasonable for what it offers. Generally speaking, I would agree that the Byrd line offers the same materials and quality for less.

But, dollar for dollar, I much prefer the Ontario RAT folders to the Spyderco Tenacious family. I no longer have my Ten or Persistence but I still have a RAT-1. I put my dirty ol' RAT right up there on my likeability scale with far more expensive folders and it still logs occasional pocket time. YMMV.

The tenacious was my first spyderco knife as well. It's a great knife for the money and I really like the looks and feel. It sees carry time less often now but I find the smaller dragonfly2 another great knife to carry all the time.
