Hey, for the last 2 years I have been carrying my Kershaw Tanto Blur faithfully everyday as my EDC but i've decided to find a new EDC. As of know I have two ideas and I would love some feedback if you get that chance. They are, a SOG Trident Tanto (Black TiNi) or what I'm leaning twords; The Spyderco Tenacious. When I get the Tenacious I have this idea that a freind showed to me. You take a dremel and brake part of the Spyderhole and it turns into a wave opener like some Emerson knives. Heres a link to the website: http://www.alpharubicon.com/leo/speedkngoshin.htm . Tell me what you guys think about it. Thanks,
Ben

By the way, I know some people are going to suggest the ziptie thing instead of breaking it. I think the zipties look really werid and I think if I did it right the Tenacious would look pretty cool.

I have a Tenacious and it s avery good knife. I shudder at the thought of making it wave, though. It is a very fast opener already with solid lockup. Customize away though...let us know how it goes.

Thanks but I love the whole "wave" concept and I don't really like the delica or endura. So I thought I'd buy a Tenacious and if it works I'll use it as an EDC.

I currently own both of these knives and both are outstanding. The Tenacious is pound for pound the best all round folder for the price PERIOD!! IMO The Trident Tanto is sweet also, i love the thick tip on that tanto blade.. you can't go wrong with either.... Waving the tenacious would be cool as long as it is done right..

If you like blade play.. then go with the sog.

If you like a durable, solid, SHARP, knife for less than $40.. go with the Tenacious.

Thanks for all the help guys I think i've narrowed it down to the Tenacious but I still don't know if waving it would work well.

It would "work", but will probably be a good bit harder on pockets, and more inclined to hang up if used in a high stress situation, than a more conventional Emerson opener. Might want to ask STR, who has his own forum here, does excellent work, and is "licensed to wave" by Emerson, if he could wave a Tenacious.

Well when I brake the hole I plan to round off the edge so its not sharp but will still get purchase on the pocket.

I have a Tenacious. First impression, it's a very nice, solid knife. I was disappointed however when I wanted to move the clip to tip-up carry. The torx screws on mine should have used a T6, however two of them were too large and the torx bit spun freely in the head. I had to use a hex wrench on them, and that should not have been the case. After moving the clip, when I tried to fasten the screws in their new position, one did not tighten properly and is still loose. I haven't had these problems with any other knife I have purchased. Quality control is important with these small pieces, and now I have trouble trusting this knife. I have other Spydercos that I am very happy with. Thought about buying another Tenacious, but made in China kinda bothers me now.

Hmm
Thanks Finedges for the wave thing to open it needs to be in Tip Up carry position. But if the pocketclip will give me issues doing that then wave is out of the picture.

That was just my experience. I'm sure not everyone would have that problem, but I'm not going to spend my money there again. I have a Byrd Cara Cara that I haven't had any problems with, so it's a hit or miss type thing.

That would be a good idea, but it's the depth of the "hook" when you wave one that way that can cause problems. A regular Emerson wave is much shallower, so less likely to snag on edge of your pocket.

And where can I find this "STR"?
Here's a link to his sub-forum here, STR's Backyard Knifeworks.

Yeah hopefully I will get one that has a good pocket clip.
Just swapped mine around, no problems, so you have at least a 50/50 chance. :D

I removed the clip on my Tenacious and the screws were just fine, fwiw.

Tenacious is a mean knife, it takes a really good edge, mine whittles hair after stropping. Don't know about the wave, but at ~$30 its a cheap experiment. Make sure if you dremel it, that you keep the temperature of the blade down so you don't ruin the heat treat.

Yeah if you guys checked out the link I posted in the original post you would see that every 2-3 seconds of dremeling you would quench the knife so it wouldn't melt the handle or mess up the blade.

Well I just put on the new pocketclip Kershaw sent me for free. It will last untill I get either my Tenacious or Trident Tanto.
