Slept in a little this morning as I've had a little problem with a stomach virus the last couple of days. Couple that with the heat, and to say I've felt bad would be an understatement.

But some cheer came in this morning! When I got out of bed and headed for the couch, I decided to open my front door just to have a look outside. Lo and behold, the UPS man had already come and gone, and left me my package of goodies! Certaintly a great way to brighten up my day.

I had several "play toys", how we grownups love out "toys", and other goodies in my box. There were a couple of Boker Plus G4 folders, an Ultimate Survival Tool Kit containing a Blastmatch, Wetfire tender, JetScream whistle, and a Starflash signal mirror, also had some 100' rolls of paracord ( one has to be ready to live off the land when the Zombie Uprising begins, and you know it's coming ), and then there was the star of the package, the Spyderco titanium Military!!

Out of the box this knife felt really good in my hand, and I appreciate the heft it has at 5.8-9 ounces. The blade was centered, still is, and has even grinds on both sides that match up perfectly at the tip. Razor sharp. Lockup is excellent, this one has the steel insert on the ti lockbar, with the lock face covering the first ~40% of the blade tang, leaving plenty of room for any future wear. Opening action is extremely smooth, and the lockbar is stiff to disengage, which is exactly how I want it to be.

Of course I had to disassemble it to see what made it tick, and to do some extra polishing on the blade tang, pivot, p-b washers, and the inside of the handles where the blade rotates. It came apart, and went back together without a hitch.

The only gripe I have concerning this knife deals with the pocket clip. Not really a fault of Spyderco, more a personal desire of mine. I do not want my knife to stick out of my pocket any more than it has to, and in fact, would rather have it completely inside my pocket, unseen except for the clip. And then I always cover my clips in black 3M Stair Step tape.

In order to get less handle sticking out you need a foldover, deep-carry, pocket clip. These things DO NOT grow on trees!! There are a few ways to get one that will fit, and include; having a clip custom made, using clips from a knife parts store ( but you are limited here as most clips fit a certain hole pattern ), or take your original clip and convert it into a foldover, deep-carry, pocket clip. I chose to go with Curtain #3. (HINT; if you do this it is a very good idea to have a small torch to use, otherwise you could easily end up with a broken clip! I have one that runs on butane fuel and it works perfectly for this.) So using my torch and a couple pairs of pliers, I have turned the original clip into a foldover than allows ~1/4" of the handle to stick out, and this is from the original of a hair more than 1 inch of handle sticking out! It still covers the lockbar, so no overextension problems should/would arise from this mod.

The last thing I did to my Military was to add a Hot Pink Paracord laynard to it.........looks sexy, cute, and wicked, all at the same time!

As I said in the opening, this package came at the right time and took my mind off of being sick, and added to my small, but growing, list of Spyderco knives. This is #3, and I have my sites set on a couple more that I plan to get over the next couple months. Beefy and hefty is looking good for Spyderco!!

Couple of fuzzy pics to show the clip mod.

IMO just getting the knives in the mail is half the fun! It's your own personal Christmas morning in July. I don't fancy spydies much myself but that is a nice knife

Sorta funny you say that OCW, as I have never been a big fan of Spyderco either. Then I got a Perrin PPT, which led to a Vallotton Sub Hilt, then to the ti Military, which is going to lead to the fluted version, a Gayle Bradley, and you can see the direction I'm headed!!

Like what you did with the clip. I to have never gotten into spydies either, but...a regular Millie should arrive on Monday and a DLC coated Para2 is on the way also. Yep, you gotta love getting those "care packages"!

I said in the above post that the clip was set so that there was a 1/4" of handle sticking out of my pocket. But when you look at the clip it appears that it would put the handle flush with my pocket. That's because I went back and reheated it, rebent it, and it now puts the entire knife in my pocket, and this is exactly how I want it.

I originally copied this thread from an identical one I posted in the Spyderco Forums at the Spyderco.com website, and it was a day earlier than when I posted this thread here at BF.

So do I! I have read cons about deep carry clips, but it is the type of clip I have on every edc in my rotation. A deep carry clip might make it a bit more difficult to draw from my pocket, but I have only ever pulled a knife out to use as a tool. At my age, if I have to pull out my knife as a defensive weapon, I would be better off backing up and taking flight!:)

And come back with my Beretta 92A1!;):)

Still carrying the Military, giving some rest to my Spyderco Vallotton and Lion Steel SR-1, and have found it to be a great slicer. The S30V steel seems to be holding up just fine, although most of my cutting has been of the lightweight type. I did cut up some UPS shipping boxes I had laying around, and it went through them just fine, with no chipping that I can tell.

I see what people mean about this being a great slicer and a great carry knife. I also see what is meant about it having a thin tip that could break easier than a lot of other knives. Thankfully I know how to use a knife and don't have to woory about a snapped tip in my everyday knife chores!

Great knife!

Not meaning to hi jack your thread, but I have been going back and forth on my first Spyderco purchase and it is between the Ti Military or the Vallotton. I've ready what you think of the Ti Military thus far, how would you compare it to the Vallotton. Which would you recommend to purchase first, since you own both....
