I have a Spyderco sharpener and purchased an set of the Diamond stones for it for re-profiling work. I like it and it does a fabulous job. Its fast and easy to use and does a great job but once you get into the very hard steels or if you want a hair slicing/mirror finish it wont take you that far - well at least not for me. I looked at/researched a lot of the systems - Lansky, KME, Edge Pro Apex 4 etc. I liked the reviews on the Edge pro so I purchased an Edge Pro knockoff to see if I would like it - the method/style of sharpening. It was good but then I began to look at the price difference if I went with a Wicked Edge ... and you know the story - I ended up justifying the extra $$ to get the Wicked Edge ... so now I sit impatiently waiting for my Wicked Edge to arrive. Now I will be able to try it out on S90V steel!

A word of caution.Try it out on a few crappy knives first to get the hang of it,before you use it on your good ones. There's a bit of a learning curve to it.

Not a problem. Let us know how that wicked edge works out for you, I'm using a cheap Lansky system and just haven't brought myself to upgrade yet.

There is a learning curve, but it's not that steep. You definitely should sharpen about a dozen lower end knives to get the hang of the system. You also need this time to break in the stones before they perform at their best.

thanks for the input. I might have been tempted to lay common sense aside since it's such a fool proof system and be a fool who tried sharpening his best knife! Been watching the videos and if it's as good as it seems I may have to buy knives just to enjoy sharpening them! I also picked up the 1200/1600 stones. I'm hoping that should be enough!
