Spyderco TUFF vs Microtech SOCOM Elite

I'm gonna throw this in if you like the socom elite check out the spyderco military, same size blade, the weight is very similiar , you can adjust your knife yourself! With TORX screws! and you can get one for like $115.00 bucks if you know where to look and those knives can take a beating, And you get a stainless steel.

just remember 3v isn't stainless so your gonna hafta either let a patina form on your blade or keep it coated with oil or my preferred coating for non stainless blades is marine tuffglide or tuff cloth,

I'm running my Tuff with no protectant, and no patina.
It's even been in the pocket at the gym a few times; no rust.

It ain't stainless, but it ain't "rustomatic" either.

As for chioce of knife, I'd say the Tuff, seeing as that's what I did choose.:)

The TUFF appears to be a great knife and I don't worry too much about rust. Since I'll be carrying it (if I end up with it) everyday it'll be consistently cleaned and wiped down. How does the edge hold up on the TUFF? I've never had a knife in 3v. If I read correctly, it's not as wear resistant as s30v, but how short is it? I rather enjoy sharpening, but the 8cr and 14c28n I've been using lately really don't seem to hold up well.

Also the spyderco military is growing on me. For a very long time I was very very against it from a style standpoint, but it has grown on me. I'm not 100% sold on the shape, but it has transitioned from a patent refusal to consider to a tentative preference for some other styles though it does have an excellent price.

Sorry for the double post! I thought it might be better to post here again rather than start a thread that is too similar. Has anyone used the microtech left handed? The lock doesn't really bother me and the clip placement on the elite (definitely not the delta) seems ok left handed, but the thumb studs worry me. The seem very close to the frame and I can't get an accurate feel for how big they are or how easy then would open. Thanks again!

The studs work fine left handed and the clip is not really a problem. The studs are large and you use the studs on the socom elite by pushing up toward the front of the knife not by pushing out toward the side of the knife.

Let me say that in my experience the Socom Elite is an impressive knife with a very long, very thick blade, which has an extremely strong detent and opens with a speed and sound reminiscent of a spring assisted knife. Mine is a tanto with a standard edge and it came extremely sharp. In my experiences chisel edges tend to pull a little to one side due to having only a single bevel but they also tend to be amazingly sharp and I like them a lot especially for defensive blades. The only real downside to the Socom Elite in your position is that if your office job is filled with those weak in mind and faint of heart the SE is a very aggressive looking. Even if you don't pick up a Socom Elite at this point I have been extremely impressed with mine and would recommend that at some time you should at least get one in your hands yourself.
