The short story of this story
Do you remember the discussion about SPYDERCO Ultra-Fine rods for Tri-Angle Sharpmaker about two months ago at SPYDERCO Forum? Then I expressed some doubts as to their usefulness for me saying that I would like to put so high polishing onto my edges doing this free-hand because this way I have more control than Sharpmaker allows.
Sal said he will bring me a pair of U-fine rods at IWA to try them and he did. Thanks Sal!
At SPYDERCO booth at IWA we have discussed this matter again. I have expressed opinion that if I would choose what kind of SPYDERCO ceramics should be done in U-fine format I would go with ProFiles. In fact I use them much more frequently than Sharpmaker.
Sal said he will make U-fine ProFile for me and send it me to try it. And he did, thanks again!
Today I have received two U-fine ProFiles full-sized and half-length. And I must say it is cool addition to this very useful set! I have just tried long one on my Outdoors Edge Apogee with plain recurved edge and it works nicely. Now I can polish my recurved edges to extremely fine mirror-like finish and sharpness! SPYDERCO U-fine Bench Stone is very nice item but it dont allow to work on recurved edges because it is full 2 inches wide.
Also U-fine ProFile greatly probably could be less expensive than U-fine Bench Stone and also than pair of U-fine Sharpmaker rods. However Im not an expert in such matters, please correct me if Im wrong.
Im not sure about shortened version. Inherently it is intended for field use and I do not see any reasons to polish an edge so highly in outdoors conditions.
Thanks Sal!
Friends, lets ask Sal to make U-fine ProFile as regular item!
Disclaimer: no flames for Sharpmaker way cool sharpening device. I just like to sharpen free-hand more!
