So comparing the spyderco manix 2 to the Benchmade griptilian, which do your think it's better and make sure to include reasons

I had BOTH.
manix2 and a 550

same steel 154.

Sold the manix2

Grip had a better feel.
But Im sure Ill get another manix again

I have a Manix 2, had mini-Grip and have mini-Barrage now. Manix 2 has the best ergonomics to me. Thin and real G10 handle.
Mini-Grip's handle is too short for me. It's also fatter than the Manix 2's handle.
Manix 2 is a better tactical folder for sure in case you needed it that way.
The action is really smooth too. It does not some breaking-in. It comes stiff from the factory.

I have a Manix2 and Grip.

I never carry either one but between the two I lean more towards the Manix2. I know it's heresy but I've always thought the Grip felt cheap. It's too fat in my pocket and I just don't like the plastic feel of the handle. I actually prefer the mini grip to the full size. The mini is one of the smoothest openers I own and rides in the the pocket very well.

The Manix2 is a tank of a knife but that's a double-edged sword. Yes, it's solid and beefy but it's also heavy to carry in the pocket. And the lock isn't that easy for me to work. I do like the G-10 scales. And it just feels like a well-made quality knife in the hand.

Both are good knifes but neither one makes the daily rotation for me. I could sell either one and never miss them. I much prefer to EDC a Sage1 or PM2.

I cant speak for the manix but the grip is an awesome hard use edc! Lightest knife in that category that I know of!

I have the 551 Camp Perry Griptilian (D2 steel, very nice blue-black G10) and I love it; the handle has the flow-through design and blue standoffs, no cheap feel (I've held the regular models and did not like them), and I had a jeweler friend remove the laser mark... you can barely tell it was there (not that I have anything against Camp Perry or the event, it just looks better with a plain blade). I've never had a Manix, but that particular Grip is a serious improvement.

I prefer the Manix2. It's just a tank of a knife and feels like a solid robust tool. I've owned a few full sized Grips, but just can't get over the cheap feeling handle. Almost feels like a toy. The mini Grip on the other hand, I love. Manix2 wins this debate for me hands down.

Full size grip only has half-liners, hence the cheap feeling. But I'm thinking... maybe this increases the overall strength of the knife - the handles will flex, if need be, and relieve stress from pivot.

I prefer the PM2.

Sold my grip and mini grip. Still have my Manix 2. I have 2 Benchmades now, the 162 and 530. I have many Spydies--Nilakka, Manix 2 XHP, Caly 3 CF/ZDP, Dragonfly 2 ZDP-189, Schempp Rock. Selling my PM2, have a waved Endura on the way to me now. I would have sold the 530 as well but its a bit to beat up to be of any value. Plus the combo edge black blade isn't very desirable around here or in general. Still, I like and use the knife. Spydies are just more confortable in hand to me. Plus they have more options on steel.

Some of these new Grips with the G10 handles and standoffs look very good IMO. Very eye catching too. A different breed if you will. They look and I'm sure feel very good in the hand. Although they probably cost twice that of an original Grip. I may just have to try one out for size.

I prefer the Manix based on ergos. I think both are well made knives but the spyderco seems to be more robust as well.

Manix 2. Better lock, better ergos, better grind, better steel, better handle (G10 vs plastic), better value.

Curious why you say better lock, I'm sure the manix 2 lock is plenty strong, and while I don't own any spydercos yet they all feel like they have better fit and finish than my grip, though not the 710 I had for a while, but the axis lock is one of the strongest locks ive ever seen, when I bought my grip I spent 5 hours just trying to break the lock, spinewhacks, pounding on it, throwing it, dropping it into wood point first, applying a lot of pressure to the blade, No damage or give whatsoever. Ive since gotten over my fear of the blade closing on me that was given to me by cheap china liner locks though.

I prefer the BBL to the Axis lock. One coil spring vs an omega spring, and I've taken both apart and the BBL lock feels much more durable. Plus, I feel a spherical steel ball bearing can definitely take more force than a steel bar. I trust the coil spring more than the omega spring, and the ball bearing more than the steel bar. Plus the BBL takes self adjusting to the extreme, as the ball bearing locks up in a different position every time.

My take........and the Bladeforums way...............": Get both!

It's only a matter of time, try out the one that most speaks to you first, then start saving for the other. I have both, they are both different in many ways. They are such great examples of excellent design and function.

Both excellent. I just think the Grip has too thick a handle, but that's just personal preference. The ergos are better than the Manix. So it's hard to choose.

I have both and MUCH prefer the Manix2 to the Griptilian. I find the ergonomics, fit and finish to be better on the Manix2 also the Manix2 is madre by Spyderco, the Griptilian is made by Benchmade... so it is kind of a nobrainer to get the Manix2.

Two completely different knives, hard to compare outright. I own several of each version.
The Griptilian is a very nice knife, has good blade steel, ergonomics are good, and the profile is slim. The bad is that the handles feel very hollow and it has an overall flimsy feel because of the hollowness. For an additional $100 or so to the asking price you can acquire better scales that remediate the flimsy feeling.
The Manix 2 is also a very nice knife. Great blade geometry, FFG, steel, and ergonomics. The profile is not slim at all, it fills the pocket. It is also very grippy, and much heavier and sturdier than the Griptilian. The bad is that there can be some side to side wobble in the blade, even with the pivote torqued all the way down, the weight can detract some folks that have the old "nothing over 4 ounces" rule. IMo the opening hole could have been made a little smaller, seems like the holes are getting bigger on knives and the humps are growing exponentially.

Both good, just different.
