Spyderco Wayne Goddard question

I carried a Wayne Goddard Micarta Spyderco a number of years including several overseas deployments and lots of other interesting trips. Bottom line: I got attached to this knife. Unfortunately I lost the knife about a year ago and finally bought a replacement about 6 months ago on ebay. The problem is that my orig. knife was a PE and this new one is a SE.

Question: Can I change this knife from SE to PE without ruining it? Any tips for doing this properly?

IIRC, Nozh2002 said he made a similar modification (SE to PE) using an extra coarse DMT diamond-grit stone. I think he said he did it in a few hours.

If he says he did it, then I believe him. Never tried such a thing myself.

You might shoot him an email and ask him about it.

bowman1: You might talk to Tom Krein about making it into a Plain Edge. I think he's in the Knifemaker section. I have a Partially Serrated Wayne Goddard that I was considering having the serrations removed from. I just haven't gotten around to asking him if he can do it. I hear his prices are reasonable as well.

Be sure to keep us updated on your project. Good luck.

IMO, that's removing too much steel, which at the least would change the knife so much it would not feel or balance the same. It might possibly affect the point enough to make it unsafe when closed.

Best bet is to ply BF here, and e-bayou know what to find one. It might take awhile, but you will eventually get a chance. In the meantime you will have to make do with another knife.

If you really can't get along with your SE blade model you can try getting along with a nice endura, or other knife of your choice.

The newer knives may not take the place of your old one emotionally, but you can find them that will cut, sharpen, and last as well as any of the old ones.

Just my opinion. Joe
