I just read in another thread that this knife has been discontinued!!!
Is this true? And, if so, does anyone know why?

Not yet, but soon. And why else...slow sales.

Too bad it isn't so sexy, just well designed and made.

The Wegner is my favorite folder bar none! It feels more comfortable in the hand than any other folder I own. It's operation is flawless. At first glance, I thought it looked kinda goofy... The blade reminds me a little of a pelican's beak. If people would use one though, they would not be disappointed! It is one tough, ergonomic SOB.

The Wegner is one of those folders that you have to hold and use to appreciate. It is my favorite production folder. I will admit that I never would have bought one had my friend Chris Christman advising me to get one. I told him how ugly it was. He assured me that I wouldn't regret it. I bought one and feel in love with it the first time I held it. I believe part of the problem lies with marketing. It was marketed as a folding hunter. Sure, it was designed for that but many people are looking for "tactical" knives. The Wegner reminds me a lot of the Emerson Banana. Maybe if Spyderco had marketed it as the latest oh ah tactical whizbang sales would have been better. At any rate I really hate that it is being discontinued. Looks like I will be buying about half a dozen or so.

Dennis,

As you know, I'm just in the process of getting excited about the Wegner myself right now. My plain edge is on order; prepaid through my local dealer.

Is the C48 combo edge version a knife that I may eventually "need", do you think? I wonder if I should get one of these, or look for a plain edged Wegner Jr. instead...Hmmmmmmm.

Jeff/1911.

I personally do not like serrations, but if you think you may ever want one, better get it now. The Wegner jr's have been discontinued for awhile now. They are pretty hard to come by. Personally if I could find a jr I would probably get one. They seem to sell pretty quickly so if you didn't like it you could probably sell it.

Jeff,

I think you should definitely check out the Wegner Jr. It is one sweet knife...I've got both the C48 and C49 in plain edge and love them both. If interested, I'm pretty sure my Saskatoon dealer (Cutting Edge) has a couple of plain edge versions in stock.

JJ

If anyone can get a Wegner Jr, plain edge for me, I'd be most grateful.

Don't forget about the Ocelot (which *I* helped name...). It comes in somewhere between the Wegner and Wenger Jr., has a compression lock, and, with any luck, should have those cool kitty paws on it. Coming soon to a Spydie dealer near you...

The Wegner is one of my fav's, and EDC knives. I am glad that I bought an extra for myself. The knife is well designed, and it just fits me perfect.

gotta love us... I may as well work there for the amount of advertising I do...

130 canadian, 85 US(I think)... 40/60 and plain are availab;e fpor the c49, only plain for the 48... not sure about the price for the c48.

VampyreWolf,

You have a Wegner Jr. yourself, don't you? How do you like it? Is the opening hole in the blade large enough to allow you to easily open the knife? Does yours have a plain edged, or partially serrated blade?

I like the large Wegner so much I feel like I really should get a Jr. as well, just because. Do you know what I mean? Of course you do, what a silly question.

Jeff/1911.

I spent every free moment for the week after I got it flicking it.

With some practice it opens about as fast, if not faster, than my boa. I tend to stay in the sub 4" range for my knives, so it fits the bill perfectly at sub-3".

The hole might be better if it was a bit larger, if I get bored I'll take the dremel to it and open the hole up to 10-11mm(from 7mm?). The fun part about it is that by catching the edge of the hole(not full thumb placement) you can flick it and it LOOKS like an auto to the uninformed... or spydie-drop...

the wegner jr is a great size for EDC, and will be my main knife for my next survival exersize with cadets. The 40/60 blade gives lots of versitility.

HEY VW
If you like the Jr. take a look here for the Ocelot (former Lynx) with a Camillis BFC EDC for size.

I really can't wait for Spyderco to get these in production.

Sal, They ARE going into production, aren't they??????
PLEASE!! PLEASE!! PLEASE!!

VW,

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.

pyrguy,

That's an incredible looking knife! I didn't realize that it was going to be a Wegner design. Looks like that will be on my shopping list for sure! Thank you for the look. I really like the big opening hole - reminds me of the Military.

Cheers, Jeff/1911.

VM,

Hey, I meant to ask you something earlier. Does your 60/40 Wegner have a single-side ground blade edge (chisel grind), or double grind? Any other Spydie I've seen with a serrated edge has had the chisel grind (I guess that's the correct name for it)...so I wonder "aboot" this one.

Thanks, Jeff (fellow Canuck).

Jeff

Yea, Weger design, compression lock, tip-up tip-down, left or right all in one package. Can't beat it. I can't wait for the production models. I really want it with the pug marks but...

The EDC was a special run of 500 with 154CM blades, some PE some partial serations. Spark or DC at 1SKS should be able to hook you up with one if there are any left. But you could get one of the regular runs easy enough.
