I just got a set of Spyderco ceramic bench stones off ebay (medium, fine, and ultra-fine,) These things are great! I already had a Sharpmaker, but I had no idea what a difference all that extra surface area would make. I have never gotten a knife so sharp, so fast. What might have taken ten minutes with a sharpmaker was accomplished in two. These are easier to clean, also. And damn, they are heavy! Nearly a pound each. Surprising.

Well, obviously I'm more than pleased with these. The quality of Spyderco products never ceases to amaze me. Highly recommended:thumbup:

I got all three as well and I agree, it's hard to beat the edge you get with those.
I haven't even been stropping recently and my knives still get sharper than ever before.

I don't use any liquids when sharpening, they just get scrubbed off with a scotch bright pad in the sink afterwards.

So does anyone know if your supposed to use oil/water with these stones...i've been thinking about getting these stones as well, but I always thought they were dry stones?????

I don't think oil or water would hurt, and might assist with achieving a fine polish, but you may want to check with Spyderco customer service to be sure. In any case, I'd recommend water over oil.

You do not need oil or water with any of our ceramic stones.

I think your confusing whet with wet. "Whet" means sharpen. You know like,"whet your appetite" means to sharpen your appetite. The Spyderco stones are used dry. I've heard of some folks giving them a squirt of Windex while sharpening but most use them dry and only wet them when cleaning up after a honing session.
