In today's mail I got Spyderco's bulletin, listing what's scheduled for production through Y2K, and, by omission, what isn't.

Here's the list I put together of what isn't:

Discontinuances:

C08 Harpy - G10 (stainless continues)
C20 Baby Goddard
C23-24 Renegade & Blackhawk
C35 Q
C38 - Jess Horn LW plain edge (combo edge continues)
C40 Khalsa
C49 Wegner Jr.
C51 Rookie - G10 (stainless continues)
C53 Herbst
C54 Calpyso (large)
C61 Pegasus
C62 Navigator in G10 - The Blue Almite version replaces it.
C67 R - limited sort of thing to begin with.

Several new or "coming soon" custom collaborations are listed as "limited," so demand will determine how limited.

James & Sal,

Say it ain't so. Not the Wegner Jr. That is one of my favorite knives and my liner is getting mighty close to the far scale.
Will I be forced to buy one more before they stop production?

James,

What's listed under the "limited" production? Got to balance the bad news with the good news.

Is this REALLY true? How about feedback from Spyderco? Sal/Danelle/Michelle?

I'm CRAZY

about the G10 Harpy, the Wegner Jr. and the G10 Rookie! These small models are IDEAL for many of the things that I do every day. Also, when flying within South Africa, it is quite easy to get the Harpy, the Rookie and the Wegner Jr. on board an aircraft. It is not quite as easy to get their larger counterparts admitted, though!!

These small Spydies DEFINATELY fill a gap in the demand-market, which I can not see to be filled by ANY other models from the Spydie range (except maybe the Delica, which is not in the same class!)

I'm sure that MANY forumites and other SpyderNuts worldwide will support this! Wouldn't you PLEASE re-think this, Sal? Or will limited quantities still be available to us?

ACK!!! The Wegner, Jr. will be history soon?! Darn... I love my Wegner here, and was thinking about getting the baby version. When will this be in effect anyway?? Y2K? Hmmm.. that means I still have a couple of months to grab one before it disappears for good.

Spyderco says their decisions were based on what sells the most and what doesn't. I have some Wegner Juniors that have been in my closet longer than I'd like, so I can't argue with them there. Perhaps they see the Pro-Grip knives serving the same purpose.

Sorry. Try to think of it as making way for the new models; Calypso lite, Dyad Jr lite, Dyad, SpydeRench, Credit card knife, etc.

James,

I trust the Wegner, Sr will still be made. I've got a 40/60 now and may want a plain blade in the future but if Wegner, Jrs will be history, maybe I ought to pick one up. Do any knife vendors you know plan on having a blow out closet cleaning sale?

I just discovered the full size Wegner. Say it aint so about the jr's. Were the sales of these that bad?

The Wegner Jr is my favorite 3" production knife - the ONLY way to improve it would be to make it ambidexterous with a Rolling Lock

. Hint, Hint, Hint --- I will be sad to see it leave
