Spyderco Yojimbo 2 vs. Cold Steel Tuff Lite

I have and love both. The Tuff Lite is an awesome little knife for the price and one of my favorites to EDC. It is super useful and light. I have 3 that I keep in various locations and beat on without remorse. Obviously, you should get both.

I have both. They are very different knives. The Tuff Lite is a small, stubby pure utility knife. It's very stout and thick, but the blade is deeply hollow ground so it still cuts very well. The edge retention is pretty weak, so I would recommend touching it up a lot or you will blunt the edge quickly. There is no real pleasure in carrying it. It's not fun to play with, the materials are uninteresting, and it's very ugly with all the different fonts all over the blade. It has a very Home Depot knife vibe. That said, it's a great tool and very durable. I've used mine a lot.

The Yojimbo much more of a general EDC/SD knife. It's also deeply hollow ground and slices a little better out of the box. The tip is not stout like the Tuff Lite, though, so I would not be plowing through durable materials with it or you might lose the tip. The materials are much nicer, especially if you grab a sprint. Mine is the S90V variant and holds an edge much, much longer than the AUS 8 of the Tuff Lite. The fit and finish, lock type, and the pivot bushing system make the knife feel much more mechanically satisfying, enjoyable, and fun to manipulate assuming you are not one of those heathens that dislike compression locks. It's a very impressive knife that has a lot of intangible joy to carry compared to something like the Tuff Lite. It fills the hand better and gives you a lot more blade to work with, as well.

I carry my Yojimbo at least once a week, where as my Tuff Lite is a knife I occasionally dig out of my beater box to do something like cut down tape and staple filled furniture boxes then toss back in and forget about.

I think the TL resembles the Spyderco Q Ball quite a bit, lock aside of course. I tried to find an image comparing the two but to no avail, I did find this on the spydie forums though. I'm guessing it's a modified Tenacious? If not a straight up custom.

Oh boy I did not know these two knives are so similar to each other. So who copied who? ;)

The top knife appears to be an Alan Davis, no?

Tuff Lite is excellent, aside from, as others have said, the blade material. I have never liked AUS8. Aus10 would be much nicer. Or LC200N. Because that will happen this century.
