Since I am always in the market of a new knife, I was looking through the Spyderco catlog the other day and noticed the Yojimbo.

Now, its touted as a "tactical" knife, but with that "box cutter" style blade it seems like it might make a decent general untility knife, too.

I was wondering if anyone has handled or used this particular knife before? I am not too worried about the quality since I have never seen a Syderco knife that wasn't first-rate in that department. I'm just wondering what the general opinion is on the design? Is it just a curiosity or a genuinly good design?

Thanks!

I have a black Yojimbo. It's a great design, and makes a good basic EDC folder. The handle is comfortable, and the S30V blade gets crazy sharp. I say get one!

I have 4 of them. I have one of them as a user. I have used my quite extensively for a utility knife and I am more than sure it would be quite reliable as an EDC self defense knife as well. Like the other Brother said: The S30V blade really holds an edge well and with the blade geometry of the Yojimbo blade makes it not too hard to sharpen. That is one knife that the Spyderco 204 Sharpmaker really does a number on. Get it!!! You won't go wrong;)

not only is the blade nicely shaped for general utility, but the shape of the hande makes it comfortable enough to use all day long.

My Yojimbo gets frequent EDC rotation. It is indeed a useful utility blade. There are things it can't do, with no belly - skinning, :) some food prep, but for day in, day out cutting bags, string, envelopes, boxes, tape, etc, it's excellent. Good ergos, light weight, great lock - yep, I consider it a good general design. As long as you want an urban pocketknife, not a folding hunter, it's a solid choice. It chokes up well even for a Spyderco, and that straight edge is soooo easy to sharpen. And it's tougher than it may look - it's got to be at least half again as thick, both spine and edge, as my Ronin.

Ditto what others have said. It's not a knife to gut a deer with, but it is a great utility knife - cuts cardboard like a laser. The more I carry mine, the more I like it. Have been thinking about getting a black one to go with the blue one.

Regarding quality, it is very solid. The design is also conducive to a very solid forward saber-type grip which is handy for tough utility tasks. The wharncliffe blade is also excellent for those horrendous blister packages that we find on so many products these days. Oh, and people always look at mine as a utility knife rather than a tactical or "scary" one. I think the option of blue G-10 really helps this and is one of my favorite features of the knife.

More praise for the Yojimbo here.

I can pretty much echo what everyone else has said. Also love the fact that its tip up.

I think it's fugly... but it does seem useful. After reading these posts, maybe I'll have to get one. :D

I think it's pretty hideous. I also don't like the blade shape. I still think blades benefit from curvature, especially a recurve, for slicing (to me, it's a big difference...)

Not sure about the handle, might be comfortable.

I really like the compression lock on my para.
