Can we please have more Paramilitary 2's??? I want about 5 more and I'm really tired of waiting. I'm new here, and I'm sure this thread has existed before. But really, is there a reason why these are so far behind on production?

Your right, there are other threads on this, Welcome to BladeForums. It seems like over the holiday seasons the demand for Para2's shot up however the price did not rise as much as I figured it would so they continue to sell out as fast as everyone can locate a dealer with something in stock. I'm sure the current sprint runs are not helping production. I did hear something about a expansion of their production facility. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

It just seems to me that the rampant demand should cause more focus on this particular product. Yes, the Techno and the Southard are amazing, and the sell quickly too. But I let my older brother carry my Para 2, and he fell in love with it. Likes it more than the ZT 550 I bought him for Christmas. I would love to buy him a Para2, but I will not give him mine. :)

The Techno and Southard are made in Taichung, the Para is made in Golden. The Golden facility has been running at capacity for years, has been expanded several times, and still can't keep up with the demand for the models produced there.

It does seem odd that production does not seem to increase for a product in such high demand. I have $200-$300 waiting to be spent on PM2's sitting in my pocket that may end up going elsewhere when I get sick of waiting.

What part of "at capacity" did you not understand? Or do you mean they should cut production of what someone else wants to make more of what you want?

I think its safe to say more people want the Para 2 than any other knife made in Golden.
Cutting back on some other models (since they are in stock), and making more Para's seems to make since to me.
Then again, I know nothing about knife production, and I'm sure its not as simple as I make it sound.

I have all of the Para 2's I want, and don't care how long it takes to get my green ones, so it doesn't matter one bit to me.

There sure have been a lot of them in the For Sale section this week... waiting for the green one as well.

No reason to be rude about it. Also, where did the "at capacity" come from? Every post gets this response, but I've never seen it come from Sal or anyone at Spyderco. I know it's a popular knife, but come on, there may be other issues involved.

If they are at capacity, I can understand but it it's "at capacity because we're making knives nobody has a hard time getting" then I don't understand.

Who knows, perhaps some materials are not availible or other production issues but if they are making other knives that are not scarce instead of the PM2 that sounds like poor business.

I'm still waiting for a yojimbo 2 to hit my local store. I've been waiting three months. Feels like an eternity.

The pm2 drought is pretty rough though.

I was going to say the same thing. 5 or more pop up every day

Most of them recently have been the sprint run. I don't want a sprint run and pay the premium for those. I generally don't buy used knives either.

maybe spyderco is going to raise the price on these a little, and letting supply and demand soften the blow before the official price increase

The majority of our "Sprints" and "Exclusives" are the response to requests by customers, either from the End line User (ELU) or dealers wanting an exclusive model. The models that we make and call "Sprints" will not be made the same way again. The models that are made for dealers can me made again for the same exclusive dealer.

As far as a business model is concerned, the jury is still out. Each model, being different, especially where steels are concerned offers its challenges in that each steel is different to work with. That's why most knife companies don't use many steels. Refently, we've been turning down exclusives due to capacity constraints. With our own "Sprints", we are often offering a requested steel to our customers in a useable format.

Hi Moving Target,

Sorry for your disappointment. Spyerco 's Golden factory has production ramped up as much as possible. If fact, we are making more US knives than ever before. We're buying more equipment as quickly as possible. Most of our models are still growing in demand. When a new model like the Yo 2 is introduced, demand exceeds production capacity for a while.

OK, time to chill a bit.

Hi Moving Target,

When we intro a new model, we have no idea what sales will be. We schedule our production carefully, and usually 6-8 months out. When a run is completed and through QC, they go on the shelf. Kelly (our sales manager) has been with us a long time. She knows the customers and the demand and she tries to be as fair as possible in her distribution. We always extend our best effort to be honest, fair and proper in all that we do. Even our store gets "its fair share", but the store must sell at a higher price to support our dealers.

The demand for our USA made models has been increasing. Our quality is better than it's ever been. Our production capacity is higher than it's ever been and we are making knives as fast as we can without dropping QC.

As mentioned, we have few choices. We can continue with the planned schedule, we can drop all models and focus on one, we can hold production until a minimum number are made (whichwe do now and then when outside makers are also slow). We choose to continue with production as per schedule.

The Yo 2 is a beautiful piece. Mike did a great job, engineering did a great job and our Golden knifemakers are also doing a great job. It's not a sprint and I expect it will be around for quite a while. If sales show strong and consistent, and the demand is there, we'll add a trainer.

While it may be our issue, for which we accept responsibility, there is little that we can do other than what we are doing. You might consider that we do underestand economics and business and we're running s fast as we can without tripping.

Two these are a little out a context as they are speaking about the Yojimbo but talk about Golden production.

I emailed spyderco yesterday about this. They got right back to me and said they are heavily back ordered. If you want one they suggested to be put on a waiting list, they would be happy to put me on theirs. I don't want to be on their waiting list because they want full msrp. Although if I could get one, I just might pay it!
