Spyderco's best answer to the BM940?

It's hard to compare because of the leaf type blade shape of most Spydies. The Southard and GB2 seem similar in shape. Kind of like 940's on steroids. One of the defining characteristics of the 940 is the sub 3 oz weight that goes along with the slender build.

I love Spyderco...have more than any other brand combined. But, I think up until the Mantra 2 was released, Spyderco really had no good answer as far as form factor is concerned. The Spydie hole and leaf-shaped blade typical of Spyderco necessitates a relatively tall knife. The beauty of the 940 to me is the sub-3oz. weight and super slim profile which takes up next to no pocket room...all in a knife that maintains a healthy portion of robustness. I also love the reverse Tanto blade shape and Axis Lock. :D

Agreed about the Mantra 2. My first "real" knife was a Kershaw Random leek. Went from the leek to a 940-1, and after the honeymoon had ended (and I lost faith in the 940 as a slicer) I picked up a Mantra 2. Haven't looked back since!

Great thread I have been pondering the same question and logged on today to research the mantra 2 because of that.

I love spyderco but the spydie hole takes up real estate. I am looking for a slim gentlemens type carry knife. I've all but settled on the mantra 2. I will look up the caly now.
