Spydercos come and Spydercos go....

We all love our Spyderco knives. In addition to the general knife attributes associated with all kinds of "Matter Separators", Spyderco knives for me are the most entertaining and fun. The different designs keep me forever smiling. However, as with most entertainment, the knives come and go, like the ebb and flow of life. If I would have kept every Spyderco I bought, I would need a storage trailer. :)
This thread however is not about the loves lost, but about the one you have kept the longest and believe it will be the one you have with you when the coroner comes to visit.
For me, it has been the Remote Release!
Why you ask?
  1. It fits my XL hand perfectly do to its added length.
  2. The rubber inlay hits my fingers right where it should.
  3. I really like the riveted construction - No screws to loosen or fall out, and they are a joy forever.
  4. I am a southpaw, and this knife is perfect for left handed people.
  5. I like the front lock, with no Boye detent! Yaaaa
  6. The remote release feature is the best. I clip it everywhere I want it.
  7. It swings around without binding in my pocket when I sit down.
  8. I like this model so much, I have three of them!
  9. And, it still makes me smile every time I use it.

What is your forever Spyderco?
Thanks, for looking.

I’m not especially qualified to answer here, as I have but 1 Spyderco knife. All of my other knives up to this point have been Benchmade..

However, I’m pleasantly surprised by how much I love my Sliverax! It has bumped all other knives out of rotation since I got it. It’s a perfect size for me, thin and lightweight, and an absolute pleasure to use. Amazing action, comfortable, and cuts like crazy. I’m hooked- keeping an eye open for Paul Alexander’s next must-have design.

There are exactly two Spyderco models I would never part with and of each of them I have two knives. I wouldn’t part with any of these 4 knives and if it wasn’t for religious constraints I would likely request being burried with them.

2x Spyderco P’kals
2x Spyderco Street Beats

Of those two the P’kals are the most precious, among the most precious knives I own. Mostly because there is no other knife like them. The two Streetbeats are fairly similar to the Whiteriver backpacker pros (which I will certainly own eventually) so they aren’t irreplaceable.

I also own two Southards which I love and in all likelyhood will never get rid of and a waved Endura which I also love and probably will never rid.

I have owned many other Spyderco knives but as OP said many have come and gone. I still own many others but most of my Spydies have indeed come and gone.

I fell in love with the Spyderco Military when it was first released...

My original Millie had the two-screw clip and ATS-34 steel and I carried that knife for years... I have since upgraded to the S110V model... But it is most always a Millie in my pocket...

We all knew you would do the right thing eventually and come to the Spyderco side. ;)

The Spyderco Ikuchi from Alexander has really caught my eye as my next myst have Spydie.

I have too many Spyders (over 60 currently) to pick from to choose only one as my "favorite."

Each one is unique and is my "favorite" when I handle and/or carry it. Wouldn't have bought and kept them if I didn't feel that way about each one.

Haven't yet sold or traded away any of the Spyders that I've ever purchased, including a SpyderCard, 2 vintage Endura AUS-8 Clip-its (Serrated & Combo) and a Merlin G-2 Serrated Hawkbill Clip-it, that I purchased over 20 years ago. In fact, I just bought a LNIB plain edged Endura AUS-8 Clip-it to complete the 3 knife vintage Endura set. It's the only 1 that I have a box for. :)

I have at least 25 Spydies that I've bought over the years. The only one I ever "let go" was a Pro Venator that I bought through the Atlanta Cutlery catalog in either the late 80s or early 90s. The rubber insert was really loose upon delivery and it bothered me so I returned it for a refund. In hindsight I should have kept it.

I have to say, I can't myself getting rid of my Street Beat either. Glad I have a micarta version. Really about as perfect as a small fixed blade can get (unless they made a Street Beat in Cruwear...).

Yeah one of mine is the Micarta version and the knife is an absolute keeper! Shame they discontinued this thing.

That’s why I want to try the Whiteriver Backpacker pro. It looks essentially like a streetbeat with an even more compact sheath and s35vn steel.

The Streetbeat is already extremely comfortable iwb a smaller sheath will be amazing. My only gripe is the fibreglass reinforced sheath the liteweight streetb comes with dulls the edge something fierce.

For the guy who started this thread I will say that I always loved the "REMOTE RELEASE" model better than I did the "SNAP IT" model. When I owned and used a Remote Release model I had far more confidence in it's latching system than I did when I used the SNAP IT model. Spyderco's AUS-8 era had some really interesting models and I still own a few. The old full Spyderedged AUS-8 Catcherman is one I'm sure I will own from here on. And why they quit making the full Spyderedged Catcherman is just beyond me. It's one of the very best kitchen and outdoor knives I've ever owned and used.

Another Spyder I consider sacred are my C-60 Ayoob models. It's my most wanted model for another Sprint Run and hopefully in one of the Supersteels.

Funny you should mention that. I got the White River Backpacker Pro a few weeks back, and when I EDC a fixed blade, I now carry it over my Street Beat. The Street beat fills the hand a bit better, but the Backpacker is thinner in the handle and carries MUCH slimmer in the pocket than the Street Beat. Plus, I do prefer S35VN. While the Street Beat is still my favorite small fixed to use, the White River is now my go-to EDC fixed because it carries so well. It is an incredible little knife, and the ergos are very similar. If you are on the fence I highly recommend it, especially if you carry IWB. The sheath it comes with blows the Street Beat's out of the water. I had to get a custom sheath made from my Street Beat.

I have 2 Spydercos in my collection both are BHQ sprints. I have the Manix 2 in M4 with the natural G10 handles and the PM2 also in M4 but have changed the scales to carbonfiber. Both have excellent ergos for my hand size XL glove and the blade shape and grind are great for my daily cutting task. The fit and finish are on point, perfect centering impressive action and lock up. The ball bearing lock on the Manix 2 is smooth and fun to play with and the compression lock on the PM2 is genius in my opinion. I have disassembled both for maintenance and the PM2 is even smoother now, both knives fall shut once the lock is disengaged glassy smooth. It took me a while to jump on the Spydie train not sure why, now that I did I'm enjoying the ride. Well except for impatiently waiting for my Spyderco Smock!!! 15478262309397244540906904646421.jpg

Spydercos come occaissionaly but they never go. I've bought 6 in the past 22 years and I'll never part with any of them. There is no real secondary market here in SA so they'd be difficult to sell even if I wanted to. They are too precious to give away to my non knife friends so even though they don't all get used they will stay with me.

If I absolutely had to dispose off all of them the one that would be most difficult to part with would be my Superblue Delica.

Mine seem to come infrequently but stay when they do. Unfortunately my favorite Spyder, a Cruwear PM3 with smooth G10, waltzed right out of my hands on Christmas day without warning. I'm crossing my fingers that I find it stuck between couch cushions but it's probably out in the pasture, lost forever.

Assume that's the Knife Center one from last November? I like mine quite a bit but don't carry it much yet. Smooth G-10 is my favorite scale material right after Micarta.
