hey guys i want to get a H1 steel version of a spyderco due to their awesome rust resistance.

the ones i see are:

atlantic salt

pacific salt

salt

and tasman

i plan on getting the bright yellow version.

all are readily and locally available i was just wondering if you guys had some input to help me decide.

cheers.

I chose the Pacific Salt for the longer blade with point. I wanted a fishing knife that would make cut bait, cut line, and in a pinch, fillet a fish.

But as GradeMaker points out, depending on use, other knives might be better for you.

Usage plans?

pretty much everything guyon stated.

also want to kinda poke and prode.

shuck the odd oyster and mostly cut-line and fish.

i was leaning between the pacific and the tasman.

do you guys think i should get the spyder edge or plain edge? :)

That depends on if you plain on using a sharpmaker, rods, or traditional stones to sharpen. It is kinda hard to sharpen SE with flat stones. IMO SE does most everything but fine detail cuts better than a PE.

thanks zen.

i sharpen on flat bench stones so i guess the PE is a better idea.

cool thanks guys.

i'm kinda stuck between a tasman and a pacific salt now....

lol guess i'll just have to go to the store and check both out

cheers

The Tasman's blade shape might not work as well for cleaning/cutting fish, but the hawkbill is the best when it comes to cutting line or rope. I guess you'll just have to buy both! :D

I personally love the yellow handled Salt Series H-1 Spyderco knives. I love the yellow handle because it is easier to find if you misplace it. I actually droped mine in a lake once in 5 feet of water and it sure made it easier find.

I wish that they would re-introduce the Catcherman in H-1 along with a couple of fixed blades in H-1.

Spyderco could literally corner the Market with an expanded, multi faceted SALT SERIES targeted at Marine use and/or survival use.

ya. i plan on getting the yellow series for its high visibility.

i plan to use it for fishing, diving, snorkling and as a general beach knife.

cheers

Large Dyad FRN would be the ideal marine pocket knife. I don't buy multiples of models but I think an H-1 Dyad would change that.

this knife will be shucking alot of oysters.

prying limpits off rocks

and splitting oysters :)

as well as gutting fish

Well SMEGS if this Forum were live and in person I would give you a "HIGH FIVE" for that one  . The big C-44 Dyad has been my main EDC for the last 2 years plus and I can't imagine being without it.

If they are indeed in the design stage of an H-1 Dyad then I will get in line for the first one I can get my hands on. But they don't need to stop there because I would love an H-1 Catcherman and an H-1 fixed blade. But we are definitely on the same page with an H-1 Dyad.
