Spyderco's Sharpening Tools? Your Favorite & Most Used?

I love my 3" x 8" ultra fine stone. I usually put a 15 dps edge on my edc knives with my EP.
Super easy to get a tree topping edge back with this uf stone. A little pricey at around $80 but nice equipment.

That larger Ultra-Fine stone of Spyderco's in one of the very few Spyderco sharpening tools I don't currently own unfortunately but it's on my radar screen for sure. Now I've had two of the Ultra-Fine 302 Benchstones for years and they are a great tool for all kinds of finishing. But I can see where a bigger unit would have its advantages for sure. I also want those CBN stones too but just haven't gotten around to getting them yet>> but I will before the year is over.

Again I'm hoping that Spyderco will expand it's GOLDENSTONE and Duckfoot units and do more with them like make them available in more grits. I also seem to remember Spyderco at one time saying that they were working on a base unit of some sort for the GOLDENSTONE>> I sure hope they didn't abort that idea. If they are not going to bring back the 701 Profiles then please make something available in more grits to make up for it. I just know that Spyderco's patrons will much appreciate it.

I have a base for the Goldenstone. Sal sent me one to play with a couple years ago. It is pretty neat. It fits the duckfoot also.

That's really interesting! I would love to have one of those myself. It would be an excellent unit to take on a trip or out in the field. I'm curious as to why Spyderco hasn't put that unit on the open market yet. I bet it would catapult the sales of the GOLDENSTONE. It's going to be interesting to see what they have coming down the pipeline in the near future.

We sell a ton of the C204MF, C204UF, and our strop block to guys who are wanting the perfect edge. Throw in a set of the C204D and you got a set up that will sharpen just about anything. The strop helps with getting that final edge, which can be done without, but getting a shaving edge on a ceramic takes some experience and technique.

That's really interesting and I'm going to check out this "Strop Block" you mentioned. I've honestly wondered why Spyderco hasn't done some type of strop or similar tool to their line up of great sharpening gear. The more I get into stropping the more I'm a firm believer that stropping is definitely a method for obtaining a much better cutting edge>> not only on knife blades but a variety of other edged tools as well.

But it also goes without saying that Spyderco's Ultra-Fine stones are excellent sharpening tools as well. I even remember Sal himself even recommending the Ultra-Fine stone for sharpening extremely thin edges like Straight Razors and I've heard others mention the use of Spyderco's Ultra-Fine stones for older scalpels as well. And by the way I do know for a fact that many serious wood carvers and woodworkers in general still use old surgical scalpels for their detailed work.

Very interesting input "KNIVES PLUS" and I look forward to learning more about your product as well.

We have worked on perfecting our strop for many years. They come preloaded with compound and are super easy to use. The strop is guaranteed and if you don't like it, we refund it. That's how we feel about our product. We suggest anyone who hasn't tried one to get over to Knives Plus and grab one. Sell for $22.97. Check it, www.knivesplus.com/strop-block.html. And while your there be sure to get the Spyderco C204UF. Great combo

Pro-Files. Usually Medium.
My crappy technique always leaves me a burr with Fine, and I like the toothier edge.

Since the Spyderco 701 Profiles got discontinued I can't believe how many people I've met in the past year alone that would also like to see them return. From what I was told I heard that the Spyderco GOLDENSTONE was indeed supposed to replace the 701 Profiles:confused: And as much as I like playing with the GOLDENSTONE and I do find it extremely handy to use in the field or to take it traveling>> but I still say that the 701 Profiles are much more versatile on some sharpening jobs IMO.

I also miss Spyderco's older/discontinued GALLEY V sharpening kit. The "Cat's Eye" stones that came with that kit are a really remarkable sharpening tool. I don't use anything else at all hardly to sharpen my Dodo model with. I also find those GALLEY V stones very good to use on the Cricket model and for PE Hawkbill blades too. I've heard that the upcoming GAUNTLET model is supposed to have some stones in it like the old GALLEY V stones.
