Spyderedged Sprint Runs: It's About Time

In the past 3 years I've just been blown away by many of the great Sprint Runs that the Great Spyder Factory has bestowed upon us>> and for that I'm extremely grateful. As a matter of fact one of them is now my favorite EDC which is the G-10 handled C-60 Ayoob model. The older 2002 model Ayoob had always been one of my Grail models for years and when they came forth with one in a G-10 handle it just made me one of the best EDCs I've had up till now.

But the reason I'm doing this thread is that I feel Spyderco is overlooking and ignoring what could be some of their best Sprint Runs to date. I don't know about the rest of you all but there are about a half a dozen models that I would like to see Sprint Runs of Spyderco models in Spyderedge ( fully serrated). The C-60 Ayoob was truly a dream come true and is one of my all time favorite models ever but I was sorely disappointed that they didn't do at least a few of them in Spyderedge :(>> The original C-60 Ayoob in Spyderedge in my opinion is probably the all time best serrated Spyder ever and I don't want that one to die on the vine at all.

Other Spyders I would love to see Sprint Runs in Spyderedge are the C-111 Captain model, The Dodo, The Military, The Catcherman and the Superhawk just to name the ones I want to see the most. Hey I know I'm not alone on this one. So tell us what you all would like to see Spyderco bring back in Spyderedge>> Hey even newer models would be great to chat about as well. Because I'm again disappointed that Jason Breeden's RESCUE model wasn't available in Spyderedge>> all the other Spyderco Rescue blades are. OK Bring them on

Military and dodo come serated lol

Hey Brother I respectfully disagree with you on that one because they haven't had a fully serrated Dodo since the mid 2000s i.e. 2005 or thereabout>> and it's been quite a while since they discontinued the Military in Full Spyderedge. Yeah I know they used to make both those models in full SE but not for a long while have they offered either model in Spyderedge unless they've done something I'm currently unaware of

The Captain in full SpyderEdge would be nothing short of a folding chainsaw. :D

Oh BROTHER!!! are you and I on the same page or what :D Like I've said in the past it really befuddles me as to why they didn't offer both of Jason Breeden's great models i.e. the Captain and Rescue models in full Spyderedge

Now I would still want the ball/pendulum end of the Captain to be plain edged but the inner arch part of that knife in Spyderedge would truly be a CHAINSAW of a knife and probably a huge model, German made, Stihl chainsaw at that

With all the neat work I've been doing with my user Captain model here lately I can only imagine what I could do with one in Spyderedge. Or should I say "What Couldn't I Do With A Captain Model In Full Spyderedge?"

There might be a shot at getting something rereleased with the SpyderEdge. We should appeal to Sal for a run of something with this edge. You know, it doesn't matter what the steel is, the SE just takes the cutting power to a whole new level. The VG10 SE Endura I had used for a couple years ended up being given to a friend that really liked the look and performance. He's been carrying that one for 2 months now, every day.

On another note, the Captain or the Beeden Rscue with the SE is the kind of knife than deserves the SpyderEdge. Both of those knives were so under appreciated. :(

The 2002 Ayoob in spyderedge was a very poor seller. It was available at a discount for years after the knife was discontinued. That's probably why it wasn't resurrected.

That's interesting "brownshoe" and I'm not disputing you because you may be right about that. But what I do know is that from guys I've talked to on at least 3 forums that had the serrated version of the Ayoob told me that because of the belly and overall blade geometry it was the very best fully serrated knife Spyderco ever made.

My good friend Doc Snubnose from the Spyderco.com forum actually did real meat cutting tests with the C-60 in full SE and he said and I am paraphrasing that the results were impressive. I need to contact Doc about that and get his input on it. But I've had 2 other Brothers tell me that they could fillet a fish with the Spyderedged Ayoob better than they could with the Catcherman. I've sure had good success with the original model SE Ayoob that I've had for all these years. I just wish I had one with the new G-10 handle.

On the other hand I do know for a fact that the Dodo sold well in SE because I always had a hard time getting one of those. Not totally sure how the Military did in full SE but I do know that the guys that liked the Mili in full SE really liked it a lot.

I've never been that much of a fan of serrated edges. I've only owned one knife that had serrations (partial) and I didn't like them much and I've not owned a knife with them since. The knife in question was a partly serrated Kershaw Blur that has long since been sold. People seem to really like the SpyderEdge though. I guess it's just much better serrations. Are they worth giving a try for someone that's had a long standing dislike of serrated edges stemming from a bad first experience?

I think it might be worthwhile. I never cared much for serration, and I still don't like part serrated, but I was surprised by how well a full SE Crossbill went through weeds, Pampas grass and small trees. I've been carrying a C44 Dyad for years, and the PE blade seldom gets used. The SE gets the call 90% of the time.

yes yes and yes!! same goes here for my Byrd wings!

So, JD, You want something like this I assume :P

Disclaimer, it's not mine, unfortunately ): Just something I saw over on the Spyderco forums and remembered when I saw this thread. Damn it is a thing of beauty though, I would pay good money for one of them custom serration jobs.

And while we're on the topic of serrated knives we want back, I would love to get a Dark Green FRN Reverse S MeerKat in SE. Would never have to worry about clampacks again

Dyad, matriarch emerson opener comin up. Hope you get your wish, straight plain edge for me though!

YES!!! and AMEN!!! I don't know where you got that pic at brother but that's exactly what I had in mind for a serrated C-111 Captain model. I had been told by a couple of guys who are big in the custom knife market that the original Jason Breeden design of the Captain actually had a serrated inner arch just like the one you've just showed us. I certainly would want to keep the rounded, pendulum end plain edged just like the picture shows us. But to have that inner arch part serrated would just be superb IMO. I would also like to have his RESCUE model in full SE. It just doesn't make sense to me at all when all of the other Rescue type models that Spyderco has sold in the past were mostly serrated to not make this one full SE as well??? It just doesn't add up that both of those great designs wouldn't be offered up in Spyderedge.

I can also say a big AMEN to what Yablanowitz said about his C-44 Dyad. I've carried mine a lot throughout the years and I haven't used my full SE blade on the Dyad 90% of the time like he does but I sure use it about 60% to 70% of the time for various cutting chores. I sure hope that this new upcoming Sprint Run of the C-44 will have VG-10 or better steel. When Deacon informed me that they had a prototype of the C-44 Dyad at the SHOT Show I wanted to scream to the top of my lungs. I do believe that 2013 is going to be a banner year for Spyderco Sprint Runs and probably a great year for new models as well.

We've got some great suggestions so far guys.

Great idea buddy. I love my serrated Spydies and would love a sprint. Hopefully Sal will see this and kick the idea around. I have serrated Endura, Delica, UKPK and Millie and have always wanted to see a serrated P2. I think a Serrated P2 sprint would work into my EDC rotation nicely!!

I think any blade with a hawksbill, reverse curve, or even downward angled blade like the Ayoob, is tailor-made for a Spyderedge. On a reverse curve, the "hawksbill" section by the handle at least should be serrated. These patterns are natural slashers / rippers, as contrasted with straight or bellied edges, which make better finesse slicers.

Brother I'm totally on the same page as you are. I have several plain edged Spyderco Hawkbills but I don't use them 10% of the time that I do a Spyderedged Hawkbill. I'm the same way on the Matriarch or any other Reverse S blade of Spyderco's. The original 2002 model fully Serrated Ayoob I've had for years is an awesome cutter in full Spyderedge. I just know that Jason Breeden Rescue model would probably be the very best RESCUE type blade that Spyderco has ever put out if they would make one in full Spyderedge. That Serrated Dodo was just a little PITBULL of a knife in Spyderedge. I wish I hadn't traded mine away. With all the Sprint Dodo models they've done recently it just makes sense to do a few in full SE.

Again there are enough Spyderedged fans that would truly love certain Sprint Run models in full SE

Id like to see a Dodo Sprint SE, a Caly Jr., and a serrated fulll size Calpso. Since I got the sprint of the Calypso, i cant put it down!

First Ive heard of a new Dyad, definitely going to the top spots of the next-in-line list.

That's a great pic of the Spyderedged Dodo model. That knife is just so cool in both edge variants.

Like I've said it just seems sort of counter-productive to me for them to offer up Sprint Runs of these great old models and not to at least make a few of them available in Spyderedge. Even if it were something along the line of maybe 15% to 20% of a Sprint Run to be offered up in Spyderedge. Just think what that could do in the collector arena. Because if only that few models were offered up in full SE then they would be very hard to find 2 years or more out.

When I had my Dodo in Spyderedge it truly was a very handy box knife. Not to mention the wide array of cutting chores that could be done with a small "Reverse S" blade like the Dodo. And a smaller blade like that is probably safer to use on certain jobs as well.

One Brother suggested the Meerkat in full SE>> at first I didn't really think much about it but the more I do think about it the more I like the idea.
