I have had an opportunity to test the first Spyderench made from production parts. Have been using one for past two days. I must say that I am very proud of everyone involved in this project, especially Vince.

The tool is certainly unusual and won't be all things to all people, but Spyderco's introduction into the tool market certainly has a "style" about it.

The piece carries very easily. Don't know it's there. Easy to get by it while getting into the pocket. Accesses easily.

Though not a "quick draw", the knife is easily retrieved and opened with one hand. The 440C blade is very sharp. The piece that I have has a combination edge. I understand we're making plain, combination & fully serated. The lockback held in excess of 250 inch / pounds of force before defeat occurred.

The pliers provide very good to excellent gripping in both sizes. Though not a needle nose, the corner of the pliers are precise enough to securely grasp small things.

The adjustable wrench performed well on all sizes to 9/16. Gripping up close as well as using the extention for leverage.

The regular bits are held in using position with a ball bearing that worked well as did the concentric position of the extended handle in relation to the tip. The Phillips bits have little grooves cut into the sides and edges for grip in the screw slot.

I've used the file on steel, glass, brass and my fingernails. It is a coarse diamond file with one flat, one concave and one convex surface. A small Phillips bit on one end and a small straight bit on the other. The tool provides a handle for the file if needed.

I think those of you that choose to get one will enjoy both design quality and build quality.

I´ve been abusing my Bear Jaws for a couple of years now and I guess it´s time for it to retire. What a coincidence...

Looking forward to getting one. It's by far the most unusual of any of the multi-tool's that I have. So I guess that this means that they are on schedule for release.

The knifecenter pics are all that is available now. These were the pics of #5 prototype. The production version has some adjustments, but basic form is the same.

Should begin shipping mid SEP. I might also add that we are heavily backordered and they will probably be difficult to get for a while. We are a small facility compared to the other companies making multitools and cannot crank out the numbers they can. We are also using materials like 440C in the blade and giving the ELU a "proper" edge (read; sharp). These quality features take more time to manufacture.

I held a proto at the Factory... NICE! I want one! Great work Sal, Vince and the rest of the crew!

Can anybody tell me where can I order one and be one of the first to get it??? Thanks!!

My birthday is Sept. 19 It sure would make a great birthday present. I hope I can find one. Also are there any plans to make a heath for it? The review on equipped.com said they thought it was a little heavy for pocket carry. Of course hopefully I can judge for myself.

Uh oh! The lust is upon me! This looks too neat to resist. If I camp on Ironstone's lawn, can I be one of the first?
Seriously, this could be a real production problem for you Sal. Some problems are nicer than others.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I think, maybe, you meant to say: Retail (MSRP) is 109.95. Expect MAAP to be approx 88.00.

I've seen these terms bandied around abit now and know MSRP (mgfs suggested retail price), but don't know MAAP. Can anyone educate me? Thanks.
