SpydeRench-Testing 1st production proto

Minimum Allowed Advertised Price. Set by the manufacturer. When you see an ad that says "prices too low to advertise" that's typically because the dealer is discounting below the MAAP.

Oops, just found out that it is more commonly given as MAP (Minimum Advertised Price).

The multi-shape diamond file really sets it apart. As a "smaller companion to a serious wilderness survival knife" this thing may be the absolute ultimate. Given that and an ATAK, Battle Mistress or whatever...damn, you'd be set.

Plus you get a backup blade with quality beyond any of the others.

Sal, I've got a suggestion: make one available ASAP to the one of the better Kydex sheath vendors. Scott Evans at Edgeworks would be good, or Blade-tech, or any of several others. Avoid Stellar if they're still in biz. The idea being, people will have an option for a sheath source BUT Spyderco won't have to actually build or stock anything.

If I were to advise Scott, I'd tell him to get some 3" long extension hex bits in regular and Phillips and set the sheath up to be able to carry those plus perhaps have room to take a few extra "short bits" of whatever type people want to score at a hardware store. I have a MK2 Gerber Multipliers (last model before the locks) and I've always kept a couple of long-shaft bits shoved down beside the main tool in the sheath. They've bailed me out COUNTLESS times. They're about $2.50 each for good ones, "shorties" of various types are a bit over a buck, the user could supply those as needed. A single Kydex sheath that held the tool, a couple of long-shaft bits and a few shorts would the ULTIMATE setup.

If it has a diamond file, does that mean the tool can be used to sharpen itself (and other knives)? That would be a first for a multi-tool, tho I recall some knives coming with a small steel, albeit separately.

Ewok: thanks for the elucidation on MAAP. Seems there's a bunch of knife-knut specific acronyms and abbreviations I'm still getting to know (SAK and ELU are in my vocab now.. still looking for OTF). This would be a good FAQ item, since the recent acronym thread (in the general forum) seemed mostly to touch on generic, net-lingo acronyms..... but I digress.

Because of the way it comes apart, yes, it can sharpen itself. Or rather, you can sharpen it with it

.

The diamond will make popular as a "big knife support blade". If you REALLY want to get radical, sell one at cost ASAP to Jerry Busse so that his customers can order their Kydex knife sheaths with a built-in Spyderench pocket on the Battle Mistress, Steel Heart or whatever. If it's made in the US Kevin McClung might be another one to do a deal like that, he's a bit picky about "made in the USA".

Jim - thanx for the tip..It is my understanding that Tim Wegner will make them using the new "TechLock" belt fastener.

OK, cool...but see if he can do a setup that will also hold two long-shaft bits...no joke, those add a whole world of useful.

This thing is also the very best "big knife field support tool" ever made, you might ponder joint marketing with Busse or somebody.
