Spyderfly and Szabofly question

last I heard spyderco wasn't doing repairs on the spyderfly anymore, but my latch broke and I was wondering if Spyderco would be willing to send me new parts or if I could get the latch stuff from someone else.

Also, I'm thinking about picking up a szabofly, but the price is pretty steep at the moment. Is a price drop and bigger release planned in the future?

The US Government, in its infinite wisdom, declared the Spyderfly outlaw and, AFAIK, Spyderco is forbidden to provide parts or service for them.

Doubt you'll see price reductions on the Szabofly. The Govenment has also declared that it, the Smallfly, and even the Smallfly Trainer  are SWITCHBLADES :eek: and can only be sold to Police and Military. While most dealers seem to be ignoring that, thank God, it does make selling enough to allow volume pricing pretty tough.

I thought they were made illegal not because they were declared swithblades but they were made overseas (and assembled in the US)?

Which, as I understand it, would not have been a problem if Customs and the Federal court that has jurisdiction in Colorado had not decided balisongs are switchblades. Far as I know, having parts for a regular knife made in Japan and assembling it here is not illegal.

These laws are idiotic. These are among my top priorities when I graduate from law school. Proponents of this legislation would last 15 minutes with me in rational debate. I know how it's going to go "oh just think of the poor, poor victims" and perhaps they can sway the public with their meager improper appeals to emotion, but there really is no rational defense for this sort of thing. This and many other societies need to understand the seemingly obvious difference between owning a tool/device/weapon and attempting to kill people. There is no necessary relationship, and there isn't even an implied relationship, as the presence of any such potential weapon is not even remotely requisite for attempted murder.

Anyway, I'll end up buying a szabofly sooner or later, might as well be sooner if the price isn't going to decrease. Is there anyway spyderco can ship me the little latch and little spring separately so that they don't come into possession of the knife?
