Has anyone ever taken apart a Spyderfly and put one back together? I took one apart to clean, and it seems pretty hard to put back together.

Getting the washers back in place and lined up can be a bit of a chore. A feeler gauge with at least one very thin leaf comes in very handy as does the smooth end of a drill bit slightly smaller than the hole. Patience and a steady hand help too.

Paul, thanks for the tips, but you kind of lost me (lol). Here is the problem:

It is really hard connecting the washers and handle to fit the tang. I have to force the handles and washers onto the tang. After that, the washers get out of place. I can't even get to the part with putting in the pivot pins.

If it was just slip on and scew, it would be much more simple. The big problem is that there is too much friction with the washers/handle to the tang, even wih tuf-glide.

Anymore help would be much appreciated!

What the Deacon is talking about is using the feeler gauge to push the washers into place most of the way and then once you have them almost there use the plain end of a drill bit or similar small round object to reach down into the hole for the pivot pin and get them completely lined up so that you can get the pin in without snagging them. I've used a thin piece of plastic from the clam-pack type packaging that everything seems to be packed in these days instead of a feeler gauge to do the same type of thing when putting my D4 back together. Hope that helps you out. Good luck!

Thanks Salamander, that was a bit more elaborate. Use a piece of plastic to push the washers into place. Unfortunately, I'm still stuck on getting the handles and washers onto the tang. I did get it on once, but I didn't know about pushing the washers into place, so I took them back off. I'll have to give this another try.

If all else fails, pack it all up and send it to me and I'll get it put together. Of course you may never see it again if you do that! ;) :D

LOL! I would like help on this; I'm not too experienced on taking apart/putting together knives (I regret taking it apart to clean). Then again, I would like to see the Spyderfly again!
